Field Service Engineer I

Description


The Field Service Engineer I is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and testing specialized medical equipment at hospitals, laboratories, and healthcare facilities throughout the Baltimore, MD / Washington, DC region. This field-based position performs preventive maintenance, equipment upgrades, recalls, field modifications, software and firmware updates, warranty repairs, and performance verification to manufacturer specifications.

The Field Service Engineer will work independently at customer locations, use diagnostic equipment and hand tools to resolve technical issues, document service activities, and provide professional technical support to healthcare personnel. The role supports Maternal Infant Care equipment, including fetal monitors and Giraffe OmniBeds. Responsibilities also include coordinating with dispatch and technical support teams, maintaining accurate service records using ServiceMax, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards. Must-Have Skills, Experience, and Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent
  
  
  
• 2-4 years of field service, industrial maintenance, electronics, mechanical repair, biomedical equipment, military technical, or similar technical experience; OR an associate degree or technical certification with at least 1 year of hands-on technical experience, including qualifying internships or apprenticeships
  
  
  
• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting aptitude
  
  
  
• Hands-on technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair skills
  
  
  
• Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain specialized technical equipment
  
  
  
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs
  
  
  
• Ability to perform equipment calibration, testing, and performance verification to manufacturer specifications
  
  
  
• Ability to complete equipment modifications, upgrades, recalls, and warranty repairs
  
  
  
• Ability to safely use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and manufacturer service procedures
  
  
  
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, service documentation, and equipment procedures
  
  
  
• Ability to accurately document service work, repairs, parts usage, and customer interactions
  
  
  
• Customer-facing field service or technical support experience
