Amazing opportunity to work with the Smithsonian Institution at a beautiful New York museum!

We are seeking a professional, organized, and customer-focused individual to support the Museum’s Interpretive Services and Visitor Programs team. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, families, school groups, teachers, and diverse visitors in a busy museum environment.

Previous experience in a museum, school, childcare center, visitor services, hospitality, educational setting, or cultural institution is highly valued.

Must be available to work full-time onsite, be a U.S. Citizen, and successfully pass a background check.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide welcoming, professional customer service to visitors, teachers, families, school groups, tour leaders, and the general public by phone, email, and in person.
• Support the coordination and daily operation of tours, educational programs, group visits, and visitor activities.
• Prepare and distribute program information, schedules, instructions, and other materials.
• Assist Interpretive Services staff with group logistics, visitor needs, exhibits, and programs on the museum floor.
• Support daily staffing and communicate scheduling or operational issues to Managers and Supervisors.
• Maintain current knowledge of Museum programs, exhibitions, facilities, visitor policies, and educational offerings.
• Provide accurate information and directions to visitors and appropriately refer questions to other Museum departments.
• Communicate information about the Museum’s mission, exhibitions, and Native communities with sensitivity and professionalism.
• Collect and maintain program statistics and assist with monthly reports.
• Provide general administrative and logistical support, including meeting coordination, room scheduling, note-taking, and ordering supplies.
• Perform other duties supporting Museum programs and Interpretive Services as assigned.

• Museums, cultural institutions, schools, childcare, or visitor services
• Children, families, teachers, and school groups
• Educational programs, tours, field trips, or public programs
• Visitor engagement or exhibit support

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Ability to work effectively with Museum staff and visitors

• Basic computer skills and ability to learn Museum systems
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity
• Ability to maintain accurate records and statistics

Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples of the Western Hemisphere, Native American communities, museums, or educational programming is preferred.

Schedule & Requirements

Full-time, onsite | 9:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m. | 40 hours/week

Days off may vary based on Museum programming and operational needs. Occasional overtime, weekend, or holiday work may be required.
