Job Summary

The Laboratory Technician performs a variety of technical tasks in support of scientific research, including preparing experiments, managing laboratory equipment, and analyzing data. This role requires attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols to ensure accurate and reliable results in research projects.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Prepare and conduct experiments according to established protocols, ensuring accuracy and reliability in research results

Job Duty 2 -
Maintain laboratory equipment and instruments by performing regular inspections, calibrations, and necessary repairs to ensure optimal functionality

Job Duty 3 -
Collect, analyze, and interpret data generated from experiments, documenting findings in comprehensive reports for research purposes

Job Duty 4 -
Follow strict safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe laboratory environment and minimize risks to personnel and equipment

Job Duty 5 -
Assist researchers in designing experiments and developing methodologies to address specific research questions and objectives

Job Duty 6 -
Organize and manage laboratory supplies and materials, ensuring that all necessary items are available for ongoing research activities

Job Duty 7 -
Provide training and support to new laboratory staff and students on laboratory techniques, equipment usage, and safety procedures

Job Duty 8 -
Stay current with advancements in laboratory techniques and technologies to enhance research capabilities and efficiency

Job Duty 9 -
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot experimental issues and refine methodologies for improved outcomes

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
High school diploma, GED, or vocational training

Required Experience
1+ years of relevant experience Preferred Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent AND three years of animal husbandry/care experience OR three years animal husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility OR certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) AND two years of research animal husbandry/care experience. LAT and LATG certifications and additional education can fulfill requirements on a per case basis.
• The ability to lift 50 pounds and push/pull heavy loads.
• Positions in this classification require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
• Applicants must NOT own rodents at home NOR reptiles that consume rodents.

Pay Range Starting At: $47,366.00/yr up to $80,049.00/yr

Other Information

Specific job duties include:

Performs routine and specialized duties associated with animal care, including feeding, cleaning/sanitizing and animal transportation. Observes and reports on animal behavior and environmental conditions and provides technical assistance to researchers and veterinary personnel. Checks for adequate inventory of necessary supplies and equipment and maintains stocks for facility users. Operates autoclaves and other equipment and ensures that equipment is in proper working order. Checks equipment operation daily and reports need for repairs. Maintains animal housing and conducts minor cage/rack maintenance. Maintains daily husbandry and health records. Drives state vehicles to transport animals and supplies, ensuring safe operation, daily inspection and vehicle cleanliness.

Responsibilities

• Feeds and cleans animal enclosures/housing systems.
• Observes and monitors animals for signs of illness, trauma or social instability.
• Monitors environmental conditions in animal housing rooms and inspects the condition of facilities and equipment for cleanliness and proper operation.
• Maintains daily records pertaining to animal care, environmental data and facility cleanliness/maintenance.
• Cleans and sanitizes facility spaces and rooms.
• Provides technical assistance to researchers.
• Participates in staff meetings, training classes, professional development and continuing education as directed.
• Complies with EHS standards and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.
• Comply with mandated minimum 40 hour work week; ability to work mandatory overtime and some weekends and holidays as required.
