Job Title: Production Operator

Job Description

This role supports the production of sugar spheres used in pharmaceutical applications by operating and monitoring manufacturing equipment in a regulated, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment. You will follow strict procedures, rotate through different production areas, and ensure that every step of the process meets high standards for quality, safety, and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Follow strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) in compliance with GMP regulations throughout all production activities.
• Rotate weekly between two different production rooms within the plant to perform a variety of tasks and gain exposure to multiple processes.
• Operate, monitor, and adjust equipment used to create sugar spheres (“suglets”) by mixing sugar, starch, and water according to defined specifications.
• Perform simple calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to support batching, measurements, and process adjustments.
• Accurately document process conditions, measurements, and observations at each step of production in accordance with GMP and SOP requirements.
• Handle sugar and related materials by weighing, sampling, batching, and monitoring equipment that processes these materials into finished products.
• Use a forklift to safely move raw materials, in-process product, and finished goods throughout the plant, following all safety and handling procedures.
• Inspect products and packaging for quality, labeling accuracy, and compliance with specifications.
• Support packaging and labeling operations as needed, ensuring that all materials are correctly identified and traceable.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work area that meets GMP and safety standards.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and follow guidance to implement process or safety enhancements.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and respond to changing priorities.
• Adhere to all safety policies, including proper lifting techniques and safe operation of equipment, and promptly report any issues or concerns.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of previous manufacturing experience in a GMP-regulated environment.
• At least 1 year of experience following and adhering to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ability to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, to support batching and documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds up to 10 times per day and willingness to be trained to handle 300-pound barrels safely.
• Experience working safely with production or processing equipment.
• Ability to work in a structured, procedure-driven environment with strong attention to detail.
• Capability to accurately document process data and follow written instructions.
• Comfort working in a deadline-driven production setting with occasional overtime.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior GMP experience beyond the minimum requirement.
• Forklift experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Experience in packaging, machine operation, labeling, inspection, or production.
• Experience in food, pharmaceutical, chemical, or related process industries.
• Exposure to roles such as CNC machinist, biodiesel technician, chemical process operator, or technical operator in a production plant.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort learning new equipment and processes.
• Ability to contribute ideas for process or safety improvements.

Work Environment

This position is on second shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., and employees usually remain on their assigned shift for extended periods rather than rotating frequently. You work in a GMP manufacturing environment with four different substations in the plant and no outstanding or strong odors. The culture is deadline-intensive, with occasional overtime and some mandated six-day workweeks depending on production schedules. The facility is climate controlled, contributing to a consistent and comfortable work setting. You will operate production and packaging equipment and use a forklift to move materials. Uniforms are provided, and you will need to supply your shirt, pant, and shoe sizes; steel-toed shoes are required as part of the dress code.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Madison, WI.

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
