RN Obstetrics Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) provides direct patient care to women during labor, delivery, and postpartum, including newborn care. This role involves performing assessments, monitoring labor progress, preparing for and assisting with C-sections and inductions, administering IV medications, and educating patients. The L&D RN ensures all aspects of maternal and infant care are managed with adherence to infection control and departmental policies, while providing emotional support and coordinating patient transfers. Responsibilities:

• Perform assessments and monitor the labor process.
• Prepare for and assist with C-sections and labor inductions.
• Provide direct care to women in labor, postpartum patients, and newborns.
• Administer IV medications and adhere to infection control protocols.
• Document nursing care accurately and timely.
• Prepare delivery rooms and necessary equipment.
• Provide emotional support to patients and families.
• Coordinate patient transfers as needed.
• Maintain sterile technique and follow OB department policies.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse licensure in Colorado.
• Current CPR certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Certification (NRP).
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within one year of employment.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience in obstetrics care preferred.
• Knowledge of labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn care.
• Ability to perform under highly stressful situations.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Interest in or advanced knowledge of obstetrics equipment and procedures.

Special Considerations:

• Physical demands include long periods of standing, walking, and heavy lifting.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious diseases, and unpleasant sights and smells.
• On-call duties are required.
• Must adhere to strict infection control and sterile technique protocols.

Scheduling:

• Full-time position, 36 hours per week.
• Night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
• May rotate shifts and areas based on staffing and census requirements.
