About the Role

As a Health Analyst – Quality, Safety & Risk, you will provide expert analytics advice to support Health New Zealand's directorates in understanding and improving performance across quality, safety, and risk activities. You will turn complex datasets into actionable insights, generate high-quality reports, and support evidence-based decision-making for strategic, operational, and governance needs. In addition to core analytical functions, you will also support the administration, configuration, and optimisation of key quality, safety & risk information systems to ensure they operate reliably and meet organisational needs.

A typical day involves exploring data patterns, designing insightful visualisations, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure data-driven solutions helping Health NZ make informed, timely, and equitable decisions. You will also work closely with colleagues responsible for system stewardship to maintain system integrity, troubleshoot issues, enhance user experience, and contribute to continuous improvement across quality, safety & risk workflows. This role is based in Auckland and does not require travel.

About the Team/Service/Location

You'll join Health New Zealand's Data & Intelligence function, a team that underpins decision-making across multiple directorates, including Hospital & Specialist Services, Public Health, Pacific Health, Commissioning, Finance, and more. We collaborate with national agencies, external vendors, and internal stakeholders to ensure the integrity, consistency, and accessibility of critical data.

About You

You are either a recent graduate or an emerging analyst with a curious, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for transforming complex information into meaningful insights. You enjoy exploring patterns, uncovering trends, and using evidence to support strategic decisions that make a real difference in people's lives. You enjoy working with BI tools, SQL, and data visualisation platforms, and you know how to translate raw data into clear, actionable advice for diverse audiences. You also bring a practical, user‑focused approach to supporting and maintaining key information systems. You collaborate naturally and take pride in contributing to a culture of continuous improvement.

You will bring:

• A relevant tertiary qualification in a related field such as business analysis, business insights, data science, statistics
• Some exposure to data analysis or reporting through study, internships, projects, or minimum of 12 months' work experience
• Familiarity with analytical and visualisation tools such as Power BI, Qlik, Excel, or SQL, with a willingness to continue developing technical skills
• Ability to interpret data and present insights in a clear and meaningful way to support business decision-making
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
• A curious and proactive approach to learning, with an interest in improving processes, reporting, and data quality
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and a positive attitude toward learning and development
