The Job:As an essential public servant and a Juvenile Detention Supervisor, you are in a position of trust within both the department and the community; you have an inherent duty to uphold the highest standards of honesty and integrity. This management level position is responsible for the supervision of Juvenile Detention staff, programs, and administrative duties. The incumbent will help direct and coordinate the work or (25) twenty-five detention offices and (5) five detention lead workers. Supervisory responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing shift and work assignments; meeting with staff to identify issues and facilitate problem solving; monitoring workflow; and evaluating and improving work practices and procedures. Additional duties include assisting in the selection, training, motivation, and evaluation of Juvenile Services personnel; providing or coordinating ongoing staff training; working with employees to correct performance deficiencies; implementing discipline and assisting in termination procedures. Other responsibilities include working closely with the Clark County Jail, Food Services, Laundry Services, Educational Services #112, Well Path (contracted medical provider), and other outside agencies or providers serving program youth. Duties also involve identifying resource needs; participating in the development and administration of the Juvenile Court budget; providing staff assistance to the Juvenile Detention Manager; conducting special projects; and preparing and presenting staff reports and other necessary correspondence. Work requires independent judgment and action. The supervisor becomes part of detention management team and as such works to ensure that the principles of balanced and restorative justice, adolescent brain development, and trauma informed care are incorporated into the work practices. The Juvenile Detention Supervisor participates in the evaluation, development, and implementation of Juvenile Services' goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; and recommends and implements appropriate changes to these policies and procedures. This position reports to the Juvenile Detention Manager. This position is exempt and non-represented.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in psychology, sociology, behavioral science, or a related field is preferred. The degree must have been conferred by an institution of higher education and have National Recognition of Accrediting Agencies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and official transcripts will be required at the time of hire.
- Four (4) years of professional experience working with at risk youth. A strong desire to work with high risk/high needs youth.
The ideal candidate will have the following strengths:
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage the programs, services, and activities of the Detention Center.
- Ability to develop and implement new elements of the Detention Program.
- Ability to define or assist in defining program goals and objectives; establish methods and means of accomplishing program objectives; implement policies and procedures; develop or assist in developing program budget.
- Ability to Prepare reports on program performance, needs, services information, and contribute to and insure the evaluation of program performance.
- Ability to select, train, motivate, and evaluate program staff; provide support and guidance; coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and terminations procedures.
- Ability to provide information to staff, and other interested parties.
- Ability to effectively work with persons from all levels in the organization and diverse backgrounds including age, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, physical characteristics, neuro diverse, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

- Ability to effectively enforce facility rules, regulations and policies and exercise sound judgment in all situations.
- Basic knowledge of and familiarity with computers and related software applications, telephones, facsimile machines, and copy machines
- Ability to obtain, motor vehicle operator's license.
- Ability to maintain a neat personal appearance and courteous attitude.
- Perform other related duties as required.

Juvenile Detention Supervisors play a vital role in the delivery of an essential public service. They are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our community by supporting and training staff, upholding the mission and values of our Juvenile Court and maintaining the continuity of our work within our facility. Juvenile Detention Supervisors are considered essential employees and are required to work as needed, this may include weekends, nights, holidays, and sometimes extended hours or maintaining an on-call status. They may be required to respond to emergencies. Reliable attendance is not just about individual responsibility; it's about serving the community effectively and efficiently. By maintaining consistent attendance, you contribute to the smooth and uninterrupted delivery of essential public safety services. Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Incumbents primarily work in a secure detention environment, occasionally escorting inmates to court or appointments, engage with the youth during reviews or investigations, operate the incentive store and frequently work in an office setting in the Detention administration hallway. Much of the time is spent in the facility, where incumbents may need to respond to emergencies which may present physical risks from various sources including violent youth, variety of potential weapons, noise, chemicals, bodily secretions, and other potential situations/dangers typical to detention centers. Incumbents must be able to wear protective equipment as required by the department. Additionally, incumbents may need to manage face-to-face interactions and confrontations with hostile, depressed and/or otherwise emotionally distraught youth or family members. Essential tasks include use of various equipment associated with a detention environment such as the WRAP restraint, security camera systems, and mechanical restraints, in addition to equipment such as a personal computer, telephone, copiers, printers, and other applicable technical equipment. In addition, an incumbent will often engage in sitting, walking, standing, bending, and carrying/moving light to heavy items. Incumbents are required to drive a vehicle to off-site training facilities, seminars, academies, or in the transport of youth to appointments.
