Job Title: Submerged Arc (Sub Arc) Operator Job Description

This role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining submerged arc welding equipment to produce high-quality welds on heavy metal components. You will prepare materials, interpret technical drawings, and ensure weld quality while working safely in a heavy manufacturing environment alongside a tenured team.

• Set up, adjust, and operate submerged arc welding equipment, including tractors and automated welding heads, to meet production and quality requirements.
• Prepare heavy metal components for welding by cleaning, fitting, and aligning parts using clamps, jigs, and appropriate hand tools.
• Monitor the continuous feed of wire electrode and maintain the correct depth and coverage of the granular flux blanket during welding operations.
• Inspect completed welds for defects, proper penetration, and correct alignment using visual inspection and measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers.
• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding symbols, and specifications to determine correct welding procedures, dimensions, and tolerances.
• Perform routine maintenance on welding machines and related equipment, and promptly report any mechanical issues or malfunctions.
• Follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE) and maintaining a clean, organized, and hazard-free workspace.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production schedules and quality standards in a heavy manufacturing environment.

• Minimum of 2 years of experience operating submerged arc or heavy industrial welding equipment.
• Proficiency in running a submerged arc welder in a fabrication or heavy manufacturing setting.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, prints, schematics, and welding symbols accurately.
• Experience using measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers for quality inspection.
• Strong understanding of welding quality standards and the ability to perform visual and dimensional inspections of welds.
• Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and work safely in a heavy manufacturing environment.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

• AWS (American Welding Society) certification or relevant welding credentials are preferred.
• Technical school training in welding or a related field is a plus.
• Experience with fabrication work, including fitting and aligning heavy metal components.
• Attention to detail and a strong focus on producing high-quality welds.
• Ability to maintain equipment and recognize early signs of mechanical issues.
• Comfort working with dated manufacturing equipment and processes as part of an experienced team.

The role is based in a dated manufacturing facility with a long-standing, experienced team. You will work around heavy industrial welding and fabrication equipment, including submerged arc welding machines, tractors, and automated welding heads. The environment requires standing for extended periods, lifting heavy materials, and working in a traditional heavy manufacturing setting. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times to ensure a safe and hazard-free workspace.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
