Job Title: Staff Accountant

Location: Downtown Houston, TX

Compensation: $60,000 - $65,000 per year

Benefits: This position may be eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to join our client's accounting team in Downtown Houston. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with a few years of experience who is looking to continue developing their skills in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform general ledger account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
• Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close
• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as needed
• Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts
• Review financial transactions for accuracy and proper coding
• Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal accounting reports
• Research and resolve discrepancies and variances
• Maintain supporting schedules and accounting documentation
• Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset accounting
• Support the accounting team with audit requests and financial analysis
• Ensure accounting records are maintained in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
• Perform other accounting duties and special projects as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field required
• 2-4 years of accounting experience preferred
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles
• Experience with general ledger accounting and account reconciliations
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
