Clinical Pharmacy Manager

The Clinical Pharmacy Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for clinical pharmacy services within an assigned specialty or patient care area. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, effective, evidence-based medication management while supporting exceptional patient outcomes, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Clinical Pharmacy Manager supervises clinical pharmacists, drives quality improvement initiatives, and advances the hospital's mission of excellence in patient care, education, and research. Key Responsibilities Clinical Leadership Lead and oversee daily clinical pharmacy operations within assigned service lines. Develop and implement evidence-based pharmacy practice standards and clinical protocols. Ensure optimal medication therapy management across inpatient and ambulatory settings. Promote safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication use. Serve as a clinical resource for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals. Participate in multidisciplinary patient care rounds. Support complex pharmacotherapy decision-making for critically ill and high-risk patients. Operational Management Supervise, mentor, and evaluate clinical pharmacy staff. Develop staffing schedules and ensure appropriate clinical coverage. Monitor productivity, workload, and departmental performance metrics. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, orientation, and retention of pharmacy staff. Manage departmental budgets and resource utilization. Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and patient care delivery. Quality & Patient Safety Lead medication safety initiatives and adverse drug event prevention strategies. Analyze medication use data and identify opportunities for clinical improvement. Participate in Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and performance improvement projects. Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, New York State Department of Health, USP, and other regulatory requirements. Monitor medication error reporting and implement corrective actions. Champion antimicrobial stewardship and opioid stewardship initiatives. Clinical Program Development Develop and expand pharmacy clinical services. Implement evidence-based guidelines and treatment pathways. Collaborate with medical leadership to improve patient outcomes. Evaluate new medications, technologies, and clinical services. Participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee activities. Support formulary management and medication utilization reviews. Education & Professional Development Mentor clinical pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and pharmacy students. Coordinate clinical competency assessments. Develop continuing education programs for pharmacy staff. Encourage board certification and specialty practice development. Foster a culture of lifelong learning and professional excellence. Research & Academic Collaboration Participate in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. Support publication and presentation of research findings. Collaborate with academic partners on residency and fellowship programs. Promote evidence-based practice throughout the department. Regulatory Compliance Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards. Ensure adherence to hospital medication management policies. Participate in regulatory inspections and accreditation surveys. Maintain documentation supporting quality and compliance initiatives. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Partner with physicians, nursing leadership, case management, and hospital administration. Participate on hospital committees and interdisciplinary councils. Serve as a pharmacy representative for clinical service lines. Promote collaborative practice agreements and pharmacist-driven protocols. Qualifications Education Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an ACPE-accredited college or school of pharmacy. Licensure Current Pharmacist license in the State of New York. Board Certification (BCPS, BCCCP, BCOP, BCIDP, or other specialty certification) strongly preferred. Experience Five to seven years of progressive hospital clinical pharmacy experience. Minimum of two to three years of leadership or supervisory experience. Experience within a large academic medical center preferred. Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY1 Residency required. PGY2 Residency in a specialty area preferred. Advanced clinical knowledge across multiple therapeutic areas. Strong leadership and team development skills. Expertise in medication safety and quality improvement. Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards. Experience with electronic health records (Epic preferred). Strong analytical and problem-s oiling abilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to lead change and manage complex initiatives. Strong organizational and project management skills. Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement. Preferred Experience Academic medical center or tertiary care hospital experience. Experience managing specialty pharmacy programs. Oncology, Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Disease, Cardiology, or Transplant pharmacy leadership experience. Participation in residency training programs. Research and publication experience. Lean Six Sigma or performance improvement experience.
