Property Accountant

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid – 3 days in office / 2 days remote) Position Overview Our client is seeking a detail-oriented Property Accountant to join their growing accounting team in Washington, DC. This individual will be responsible for the full‑cycle accounting of a commercial real estate portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting while partnering with property management and operations teams. Responsibilities Manage the full‑cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of commercial properties. Prepare monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger analyses. Complete month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes in accordance with established deadlines. Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, variance reports, and supporting schedules. Reconcile bank accounts, tenant receivables, prepaid expenses, accruals, and fixed assets. Record tenant billings, rent adjustments, CAM reconciliations, and operating expense recoveries. Coordinate with property managers to review budgets, expenses, and financial performance. Assist with annual operating budgets, forecasts, and year‑end audit requests. Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies. Support process improvements and participate in special projects as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property accounting. Experience preparing financial statements and performing month‑end close activities. Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Yardi, MRI, or another property management/accounting system is highly preferred. Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with CAM reconciliations and tenant billing.
