Responsibilities Prosecute a variety of federal violations, including organized crime, financial litigation, immigration, drugs, firearms, public corruption, asset forfeiture, and white‑collar crime. Participate in frequent courtroom appearances and a fast‑paced, varied caseload. Engage in grand jury practice and other investigative prosecution techniques. Prepare day‑to‑day correspondence, pleadings, and conduct independent legal research. Qualifications United States citizen or national. J.D. degree and active membership in the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction. At least one year of post‑J.D. legal or other relevant experience. Residence within the Southern District of Texas or within 25 miles of the office. For male applicants born after Dec. 31, 1959, certification of Selective Service registration or exemption. Successful completion of a satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, tax checks, and drug testing. Preferred Qualifications Strong academic credentials and superior legal research and writing skills. High‑volume courtroom experience, including first‑chair jury trials. Excellent organizational, time‑management, and interpersonal skills. Computer proficiency and ability to prepare independent legal documents. Experience in investigative and prosecution techniques, especially in grand jury work. Salary Assistant U.S. Attorney: $85,270 to $195,100 (basic pay) with 35 % locality pay. Travel Approximately 1 to 5 nights per month on average. Position Type Initial attorney appointments are 14‑month temporary positions pending favorable background adjudication.
