Principal Software Engineer - Apache Cassandra

As a Principal Software Engineer at JPMorganChase within Infrastructure Platforms and as a part of the Cassandra engineering team, you will be working on one of the largest internal database platforms, and one of the largest Cassandra implementations, in the world. You will work with an experienced team of engineers to build automation and self-service tooling for Cassandra in both private and public cloud, with a focus on consumer driven requirements and customer experience. The goal is to deliver a world-class platform, consumable by JPMorganChase’s most critical systems, for the use of Apache Cassandra. The ideal candidate will have a passion for learning and a desire to solve complex problems across a broad set of technologies. Job responsibilities Creates complex and scalable coding frameworks using appropriate software design frameworks Develops secure and high-quality production code, and reviews and debugs code written by othersCollaborate with a skilled engineering team to develop automation and self-service tools for Cassandra across private and public cloudsFocus on delivering a consumer-driven, world-class Cassandra platform for JPMorganChase's critical systems, enhancing customer experienceArchitects and governs agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) to improve delivery speed, code quality, and operational outcomes at scale (e.g., AI-driven PR review assistance, test generation/maintenance, release readiness checks, incident triage and root-cause acceleration), while defining guardrails for validation, security, resiliency, and reuse across teamsApplies knowledge of tools within the Software Development Life Cycle toolchain, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to improve the value realized by automation at scale. Advises cross-functional teams on technological matters within domain of expertiseContributes to the development of technical methods in specialized fields in line with the latest product development methodologiesCreates durable, reusable software frameworks that are leveraged across teams and functionsInfluences leaders and senior stakeholders across business, product, and technology teamsRequired qualifications, capabilities, and skillsFormal training or certification on infrastructure engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experienceUnderstanding of cloud, virtualization, APIs, and modern software languagesSoftware development experience in Java programming languageExcellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities efficientlyAdvanced experience working with two or more of the following: web application development, database, Unix/Linux environments, distributed and parallel systems, information retrieval, networking, large-scale software development, security software developmentDemonstrated experience designing and leading adoption of agentic AI-enabled development practices (using enterprise-authorized tools within the work environment) across teams, including setting standards for human-in-the-loop validation, auditability/traceability of changes, and secure handling of sensitive dataStrong understanding of responsible AI use and control expectations in engineering workflows, including security/resiliency implications, data sensitivity, and risk-based governance; ability to influence senior technical leaders on safe scaling patterns and reuse.
