Position Summary The Category Leadership Manager (CLM) is an instrumental research‑oriented tactical member of the Category Leadership team, contributing to Constellation’s reputation as a provider of CL recommendations. The CLM demonstrates accountability, dependability, proactivity, collaboration, logic, and analytical flexibility to focus on desired outcomes and secure successful space management projects. Responsibilities Influences and manages all space management projects for assigned customers. Influences retailers’ schematic processes to implement key shopper insights and a shopper‑first shelf strategy. Leads space‑management analysis and designs category shelf schematics using standardized planning processes, tools, and space strategies. Collaborates with Sales partners to determine account priorities and pursue impactful space, assortment, and sales‑analytics initiatives. Conducts space and distribution opportunity analysis to optimize revenue and profit by improving shopping convenience. Makes product addition and deletion recommendations by brand and package. Adjusts sub‑category or segment flow, or brand‑blocking techniques as directed. Quantifies expected results of proposed planogram changes. Initiates and attends customer meetings as appropriate. Participates in reset decision making with other vendors and merchandisers. Establishes, controls, and implements retail execution plan methods and procedures to enhance overall project effectiveness. Defines required human resources, requests them as necessary, and reports to the CL Director. Provides expertise to Category Analysts (CA) or Associate Category Analysts (ACA) to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Guides the CA/ACA in raw data collection and cleansing from customers, ensuring data accuracy before analysis. Maintains schematic archives with accurate data for all required store combinations. Reports changes implemented, including physical space gains/losses by brewer/brand. Measures schematics post‑implementation. Participates in a wide variety of ad‑hoc analytical projects. Prepares category reviews or conducts analysis as a project lead, as directed by the Director or Sales Lead. Extracts required raw data from retailer or Constellation systems (POS, loyalty, primary research, syndicated data). Proactively identifies business growth opportunities and develops category insights, solutions, and presentations for assigned customers. Attends and participates in business planning meetings. Provides input into assigned customers’ annual business plan and the joint business planning process. Seeks clarification or understanding as necessary. Updates scorecards for assigned customers using Constellation’s standardized format. Manages and tracks progress across all initiatives, summarizes, and reports outcomes to appropriate personnel. Knowledge and Skills Advanced analytical proficiency, including conceptual understanding of data, integration of diverse themes, and generation of new insights. Expert manipulation of space‑management software (ProSpace, ProSpace+, or Apollo) to produce and present detailed information. Strong data‑quality assurance skills: identifies errors, questions source accuracy, and verifies data completeness. Ability to extract and interpret data from secondary syndicated or primary retail systems, including IRI, Nielsen, SPINS, Spectra, and retailer loyalty data (e.g., Spire). Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; skilled in creating high‑volume, accurate deliverables with minimal oversight. Resilient, able to maintain a rapid pace and adapt to changing priorities; promotes teamwork and removes productivity barriers. Clear communication skills, using plain language and correct vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Proactive problem‑solving and recommendation development based on input and anticipated challenges. Minimum Qualifications 1–2 years of space‑management experience. Expert knowledge of JDA Intactix or Apollo system usage and output. Average understanding of system outputs and measures, including IRI, Nielsen, SPINS, and Spectra loyalty data. Above‑average user of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Availability to travel a minimum of 20% of working time, including up to 5hrs of driving time. Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of space‑management experience. 1–2 years of direct sales, merchandising, or retail store management experience. 1–2 years of category management, consumer or shopper insights, or research experience, including management of sub‑categories or segments. Above‑average understanding of system outputs (IRI, Nielsen, SPINS, Spectra) and expertise in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Physical Requirements / Work Environment Must stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. Needs clear vision, ability to adjust focus, and peripheral/color vision. Primary office environment with occasional warehouse exposure to variable temperatures and lighting. Must be able to lift 40lbs. on occasion.
