Position Overview The Environmental Manager is responsible for directing and overseeing all environmental aspects of a project from initiation through completion. This role oversees the planning, execution, reporting, and client communication for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, and related environmental consulting services. The Project Manager ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with ASTM standards, federal and state regulation, and company quality standards. This position requires strong technical expertise, project management skills, client relationship management, and ability to mentor junior staff while supporting business development efforts. Responsibilities Manage multiple Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment projects simultaneously. Perform Phase I and Phase II ESA technical writing and fieldwork. Monitor project progress, budgets and profitability. Coordinate field activities, subcontractors, laboratories, and internal technical staff. Maintain accurate project documentation and records. Develop project estimates, proposals, and scopes of work in collaboration with technical and business development teams. Maintain clear and consistent communication with clients to manage expectations, address issues, and ensure satisfaction. Track project financial performance, including cost control, revenue forecasting, and profitability analysis. Ensure project alignment with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., TRRP, PST, CERCLA, RCRA, ASTM standards). Conduct soil, groundwater, and vapor sampling using established safety protocols. Conduct site investigations, collect and evaluate data, and prepare comprehensive reports. Communicate with regulatory authorities and address project-specific requirements. Support employee development through training, mentorship, and performance feedback; participate in hiring and onboarding. Ensure all activities adhere to company safety protocols and regulatory requirements. Assist with identifying add-on or follow-on work opportunities through client engagement and field visibility. Participate in cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, laboratory, safety, and operational teams. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline; OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Minimum of 5+ years of environmental consulting experience. Professional Geologist; PG or Professional Engineer; PE registration/license. Knowledge of environmental permitting, regulations, and testing methods. Certifications in relevant inspection or testing areas preferred (e.g., ACI, ICC, ATTI, Nuclear Safety). Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and industry‑specific platforms (e.g., project management, data reporting systems). Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills. Willingness to travel to job sites and work in diverse environmental conditions. Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage multiple priorities, and interface with clients and regulatory bodies effectively. Travel Requirements This position requires moderate travel, approximately up to 40% of the time, in support of business objectives and client engagements. Travel may be both scheduled and on short notice, depending on project needs. Destinations typically include job sites, field locations, or regional offices, where work may be conducted in outdoor or operational environments. Adherence to all company safety protocols and use of PPE is required during travel and on‑site work. Physical Demands & Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring flexibility to work effectively from both a professional office and work site setting. Work is performed at a desk for extended periods using a computer, phone, and standard office equipment in a climate‑controlled office environment. Regular in‑person communication with team members, clients, and stakeholders is required. Physical demands may include sitting for long durations, occasional standing, walking, bending, and lifting of materials up to 15 pounds. Field environment: Work at outdoor sites including wetlands, forests, grasslands, construction zones, and undeveloped land. Travel on foot across uneven, rugged, or obstructed terrain, sometimes in areas inaccessible by vehicle. Exposure to varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, rain, or sun. Possible presence of insects, animals, or natural and man‑made hazards. Physical requirements: Ability to lift and carry between 35–75 lbs. of equipment or samples over distances up to 75 feet. Ability to stand, walk, drive, and operate lab and field equipment for extended periods. Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and balance as needed during both lab and fieldwork. Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats in varied environments, often while wearing PPE. Ability to use sensory capabilities to see (including close and distant vision, color perception, depth perception, and focus) and smell for observation and safety purposes.
