Job Title: Rough Carpenter

Job Description

This long-term rough carpentry role focuses on building decks at a construction site. The position is ideal for a carpenter with approximately 2–3 years of experience who is confident using hand and power tools, reading blueprints, and performing early-phase commercial construction tasks. You will work as part of a small crew and contribute directly to the structural work that supports the broader project.

Same company is also looking for commercial construction laborers paying up to $22/hr for site cleanup and general assistance around the job site. That would be a foot-in-the-door to a 5+ year project where you could be hired on with a large general contractor and get into a skilled trade or operator role.

Responsibilities

• Build and install decks and related structural components on a construction site.
• Work as part of a two-person carpentry crew and coordinate daily tasks to meet project timelines.
• Interpret and follow blueprints, drawings, and measurements to ensure accurate layout and installation.
• Use hand tools, power tools, and saws with blades safely and effectively for cutting, framing, and assembly.
• Perform rough carpentry tasks including framing and other early-phase construction activities.
• Assist with basic finish carpentry and drywall-related tasks as needed to support project progress.
• Measure, mark, and cut materials to specified dimensions while maintaining accuracy and quality.
• Follow all site safety protocols and best practices to maintain a safe working environment.
• Bring and maintain personal tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) in good working condition.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and workmanship standards.

Essential Skills

• Approximately 2–3 years of experience in rough carpentry or closely related construction work.
• Proficiency using hand tools such as hammers, tape measures, levels, and squares.
• Experience operating power tools, including saws with blades, drills, and other carpentry equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
• Strong measurement skills and attention to detail for accurate cutting and layout.
• Knowledge of commercial construction practices and early-phase construction tasks.
• Commitment to safety and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to work a 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. schedule, Monday through Friday.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• OSHA 10 certification preferred.
• Experience in finish carpentry is beneficial.
• Experience in drywall work is a plus.
• Framing experience in commercial or large-scale construction environments is advantageous.
• Ability to work overtime when needed, including extended hours beyond the standard 50-hour workweek.
• Capability to provide and maintain a personal set of tools suitable for rough carpentry work.

Work Environment

This role is based at an outdoor data center construction site in KS. You will typically work a 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. shift, Monday through Friday, for a standard 50-hour workweek, with the potential for additional overtime as needed. The work takes place primarily outdoors, so you should be prepared to work in varying weather conditions and on an active commercial construction site. You will use a range of hand tools, power tools, and saws, and you are expected to provide your own tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriate for rough carpentry and construction work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of De Soto, KS.

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in De Soto,KS.
