Job Summary

The Food Service Coordinator (FSC) plays a vital leadership role in ensuring Fortune scholars receive nutritious, high-quality meals in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.

This position oversees food service operations for Ephriam Williams College Prep and William Lee College Prep , coordinating daily meal preparation, ordering, food safety, and team support.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, and passionate about creating a positive dining experience that supports our students' health, focus, and success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operations & Supervision

• Oversee and participate in the preparation, serving, and storage of meals in accordance with nutrition and safety standards.
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and dining area that meets or exceeds local health and safety regulations.
• Supervise and train food service team members in safe and efficient work practices.
• Schedule staff and manage daily workflow to ensure timely meal service.

Inventory & Ordering

• Order, receive, and maintain inventory of food and supplies in coordination with the Central Office.
• Monitor stock levels to minimize waste and control costs.
• Maintain accurate records for compliance, including production logs, temperature checks, and meal counts.

Customer Service & School Culture

• Model Fortune's values by providing a friendly, respectful, and service-oriented experience for all students.
• Communicate effectively with school leaders, staff, and vendors.
• Address student needs and questions with patience and professionalism.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure all equipment and food handling procedures comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Practice and enforce proper sanitation and lifting techniques.
• Support site inspections and audits as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Quantity food service preparation and safe food handling practices
• Health codes, sanitation standards, and food storage procedures
• Operation and maintenance of food service equipment
• Basic record keeping, reporting, and ordering procedures

Skills and Abilities:

• Lead and motivate food service staff
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
• Maintain accurate records and comply with reporting timelines
• Communicate clearly with students, staff, and vendors
• Exercise good judgment, initiative, and attention to detail
• Demonstrate patience, professionalism, and teamwork
• Maintain punctual, reliable attendance

Education and Experience

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a school or institutional food service program
  • Food Handler's Certificate (required within 30 days of hire if not current)
  • Supervisory or leadership experience a plus

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Bending, reaching, kneeling, and occasional lifting up to 20 pounds
• Frequent use of hands to operate kitchen equipment and manage inventory
• Indoor/outdoor environment; exposure to varying temperatures
