HR Partner (UHR)

Overview The HR Partner will act as a trusted talent advisor to their unit. This role will work closely with unit managers and their HR leadership to deliver coordinated HR services, develop and implement a robust HR strategy tailored to the unit, and make strategic recommendations for unit talent strategy. The HR Partner will lead HR activities within the unit that align to the overall talent and organizational strategy in areas such as performance management, talent and succession planning, employee onboarding and assimilation, and compensation. This role will collaborate with centers of expertise and the HR Solution Center for domain expertise and HR transactions, report into HR for operational guidance, and champion USC’s culture and values. Job Responsibilities Engage proactively with unit leaders and HR centers of expertise to develop a tailored talent management strategy for the unit. Provide advice and coaching to mitigate risk and support the unit with best practices from HR subject matter experts. Understand and address day-to-day employee management requirements, legal compliance, and employee/labor relations matters; escalate as needed. Assist with employee or labor relations matters and litigation as directed. Develop an HR strategy addressing unit-specific needs, including workforce planning and succession planning. Utilize workforce data and insights to tailor talent management strategies and action plans. Provide day-to-day guidance to line management on performance management, career development, and disciplinary actions. Communicate complex HR policies and procedures clearly to enable units to plan, act, and respond. Maintain open lines of communication with the business unit and the HR Partner team; escalate conflicts when needed. Monitor and update knowledge of employment laws and HR leading practices; advise on all HR areas including hiring decisions, promotion, compensation, learning, development, and succession planning. Promote a culture that aligns with USC values and mitigate risk while improving the employee experience. Record and report compliance breaches or workplace concerns to HR leadership and support corrective actions. Provide guidance on complex employee matters and foster inclusive, unbiased opportunities across the organization. Support organizational decision-making and workforce planning with data-driven insights and talent indicators. Other related responsibilities as requested; note that the university reserves the right to modify duties. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business, psychology, human resources, industrial relations, or related field. Five or more years of experience in human resources or human capital management. Understanding of a broad spectrum of HR domains including total rewards (compensation), recruitment, employee and labor relations, talent management (including performance management, learning and development), continuous process improvement, change management, training, diversity and inclusion, workforce planning, and organizational development. Experience consulting with units on workforce planning, talent assessments, and performance management. Experience presenting complex information to executive leadership through presentations or data/reports. Ability to drive HR strategy across organization design, workforce planning, coaching, program management, and measurement of key talent metrics. Analytical and problem-solving skills with conflict resolution abilities; ability to manage multiple projects with diverse teams. Ability to learn quickly and adapt HR expertise to different business units; ability to develop positive working relationships. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in business, psychology, human resources, industrial relations, or related field. Seven or more years of experience in HR or human capital management. Experience in higher education or consulting. Excellent mentoring and coaching skills for client management and cross-team relationships. Knowledge of Workday HCM applications and analytics. Relevant certifications (e.g., CIPD, CPLP, ODCP, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR) or similar. Additional Information The annual base salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $100,000.00.
