Job Title: ShiftSupervisor

Department: Nursing Department

Reports To: Director of Nursing

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

The Shift Supervisor will plan and organize the nursingcare for Elders of Brethren Retirement Community. He/She will directly supervise the licensednursing Care Partners, Resident Assistants and STNAs. The major functions of this job are: toprovide leadership within the department to meet program goals and objectives;to provide leadership in a smooth transition of elders moving in and out of thefacility and to maintain and respect all laws, rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
*Note: Other duties may be assigned
• Supervise and mentor licensed nursing CarePartners and unlicensed Care Partners in quality Elder services.
• Direct day-to-day operations of the neighborhood.This includes reviewing the care provided to Elders for a 24-hour period.
• Provide leadership and support for theresident-centered care model.
• Assure quality of care by performing audits onissues such as, but not limited to: skin, falls, restraints, care plans, andinfection control.
• Utilize reports in PCC or other electronicmedical record software. Teach andmonitor licensed nurses in the use of the software.
• Make regular rounds to visit acutely/terminallyill Elders and newly admitted or transferred Elders and assisting the Charge Nursesin assessing Elder needs.
• Support the licensed nursing Care Partners tomeet Elder needs which may include but are not limited to emergency situations,admission and discharge of Elders and daily care.
• Assist in the admission/placement/transfer of Eldersto the proper level of care.
• Resolve problem situations referred to him/herby the Charge Nurse after their attempts at resolution have proven futile.
• Serve as a liaison/multi-disciplinary teammember between Care Partners, administration, Elders, family, physicians, andother community members to maintain good rapport and public relations.
• Actively participate in the Nurse Manager oncall rotation.
• Assist with other duties as necessary for smoothoperation.
• Complete audits as assigned.
Maintaina qualified, efficient Nursing Staff:

o Make daily contact with Care Partners on the neighborhoods,observing techniques and services rendered by Care Partners to ensure adherenceto quality guidelines.

o Assist with the orientation of new Nursing CarePartners and providing recommendations regarding educational needs of current CarePartners.

o Coach, teach and counsel the nursing CarePartners.

o Review and make recommendations for revision andupdating of policies and procedures.

o Participate in the assessment and identificationof Care Partner needs, recruitment, hiring and the scheduling of hours withinbudgetary constraints.

o Evaluate job performance of nursing CarePartners.
Enhanceprofessional and personal growth and development by:

o Attended educational programs, in-services andscheduled meetings.

o Pursue advanced practice certification, collegecourses, etc.

o Direct and control assigned operations andinformation to maintain sound privacy and security practices and preventprivacy or security breaches. If a breach occurs, take corrective action.

SUPERVISORYRESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervise the licensed nursing Care Partners and the nursingassistants. He/She performs supervisoryresponsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicablelaws. Responsibilities include training CarePartners, planning, assigning and directly work, appraising performance,rewarding and disciplining Care Partners; addressing complaints and resolvingproblems.

CERTIFICATIONS,LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Licensed in State of Ohio as a Licensed Nurse.

EDUCATION and/orEXPERIENCE
Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school;or equivalent combination of education and one-year experience as competentnurse practitioner in supervisory management capacity. Ability to manage basic skills inherent inoperating the computers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific andtechnical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires orcomplaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of businesscommunity. Ability to write speeches andarticles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information totop management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebraand geometry.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concretevariables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety ofinstructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee isregularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required tosit. The employee must occasionally lift and/ormove up to 25 pounds. Specific visionabilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjustfocus.
