Location: Traveling role across Brooklyn and Manhattan (9 Bagel Shop Locations)

Salary Range: $70,000 – $80,000 per year (Based on Experience)

Job Summary

To keep our 9 bustling locations across Brooklyn and Manhattan running smoothly, we are seeking a highly skilled, proactive, and hands-on Facilities & Maintenance Specialist. This is not just an administrative or supervisory role; you will be the primary person executing repairs, performing preventative maintenance, and maintaining our high standard of excellence. You must possess a comprehensive knowledge of property systems, have your own vehicle (or a valid driver's license with reliable transit), and be ready to move swiftly between locations to ensure our neighborhood shops remain welcoming, safe, and fully operational for our community.

Key Responsibilities

Hands-On Repair & Property Upkeep

• Direct Execution: Personally perform basic and intermediate repairs including patching, painting, light plumbing, and electrical work.

• Aesthetic & Seasonal Upkeep: Maintain the visual standards of our dining rooms and exteriors, including the care and watering of indoor/outdoor potted plants and installing seasonal decorations to keep our spaces inviting.

• Storefront & Sidewalk Management: Utilize a multi-pronged strategy to ensure daily cleanliness of store entrances and sidewalks, managing winter snow removal and salting for guest-facing outdoor areas.

Preventative Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on mechanical equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical systems, A/V equipment, and overall property assets.

• Area Inspections: Ensure the continuous upkeep of dining rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas.

• Troubleshooting: Apply working knowledge of mechanical troubleshooting to solve issues before they disrupt business operations.

Communication & Collaboration

• Cross-Departmental Updates: Maintain a high level of constant communication across all departments, providing clear timelines and task completion updates to leadership.

• Teamwork: Partner closely with porters, Operations, and store managers to address facility concerns and maintain overall functionality.

Safety, Energy, & Budget Compliance

• Safety Standards: Conduct regular inspections and tests to ensure all equipment complies with local, state, and federal regulations.

• Financial Tracking: Work within the annual repairs and maintenance budget and proactively communicate a plan when needs exceed the allotted budget.

• Energy Management: Monitor and control energy usage across all properties to improve efficiency and reduce environmental and financial costs.

Vendor Coordination & Emergency Response

• Vendor Oversight: Source and manage outside contractors for specialized tasks (e.g., awning maintenance, pest control, major plumbing/grease traps) to ensure their work meets our standards.

• Emergency Response: Remain available to respond swiftly to emergencies, including power outages, plumbing failures, and fire alarms, acting quickly to mitigate issues.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Travel: Must have a reliable car or the clear ability to drive and travel constantly between multiple locations in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

• Experience: Proven experience in commercial facilities maintenance, preferably within the restaurant, retail, or hospitality industries.

• Skills: Strong technical skillset in plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and HVAC troubleshooting.

• Mindset: A strong sense of urgency, high attention to detail, and a "no task too small" attitude.

• Physical Ability: Able to lift heavy equipment, climb ladders, and perform physical labor indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $70,000 – $80,000 per year (Commensurate with experience)
