Job SummaryThe billing associate is responsible for submission of insurance claims to payer, posting payments, insurance follow-up, denials, patient AR and customer service calls. The revenue cycle specialist will ensure claims are processed accurately and in a timely manner.Qualifications / Requirements2–3 years of experience in medical billingWorking knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codingExperience with insurance claims follow-up and collectionsProficiency in insurance and patient payment postingStrong verbal and written communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and OutlookHigh school diploma or equivalent requiredEssential FunctionsResolve non-coding insurance/clearinghouse rejection, including other claims submission errors and rejections in a timely mannerEnter and update patient information accurately within electronic medical Records (EMR), which includes verifying insurance information and accurately updating patient accountsPerform daily posting of insurance and patient paymentsReconcile insurance payments to ensure accuracy and completenessInsurance follow-up for no response, denials and correspondenceAnswer and resolve incoming customer service calls from patientsUpdate patient accounts for Sliding Fee Schedule adjustmentsReview and resolve insurance credit balances, including issuing refunds when appropriatePrepare and submit accurate billing to appropriate state Medicaid systems using electronic claim submissions when possibleDemonstrate excellent customer service and professionalism when interacting with patients, providers, and payersMaintain strict adherence to HIPAA and patient privacy rights, accessing only the minimum necessary information to perform job responsibilitiesEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and payer-specific regulations related to billing and privacyPerform other duties as assignedPhysical RequirementsThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
