Electrical Engineer

DOEUnited States Texas HoustonContract Power Generation, T&D T&D Position Overview The Electrical Engineer provides experienced power-systems engineering support for gas-turbine packages and power-generation projects. This role is responsible for the design, integration, testing, and field implementation of medium- and low-voltage generation and distribution systems, working across engineering, manufacturing, procurement, vendors, and field teams.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and review electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, equipment specifications, calculations, and Bills of Material.Specify generators, transformers, switchgear, motors, MCCs, control cabinets, power distribution, auxiliary power, lighting, and safety systems.Perform or review load-flow, short-circuit, equipment and cable sizing, grounding, area classification, and protective-relaying requirements.Review vendor submittals for compliance with engineering specifications, project requirements, and applicable codes.Coordinate electrical interfaces with mechanical, controls, civil, manufacturing, procurement, construction, and operations teams.Participate in design reviews and support design improvements, cost reductions, and customer-specific requirements.Provide technical support during manufacturing, testing, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.Maintain accurate engineering documentation and manage multiple project priorities and deadlines.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.Five to ten years of progressive electrical-engineering experience, including substantial direct experience with industrial or utility power systems.Demonstrated experience with power generation, medium- and low-voltage distribution, transformers, switchgear, motors, MCCs, grounding, and protective relaying.Strong knowledge of three-phase power, load flow, short-circuit calculations, equipment and cable sizing, and overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and differential protection.Working knowledge of electrical area classification, NEMA and IEC or IP enclosures, and IEEE, IEC, and NEC requirements.Ability to read and develop one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical equipment specifications.Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD or similar design software.Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and engineering judgment.Preferred QualificationsExperience with gas turbines, generators, turbomachinery, or modular power equipment.Experience supporting manufacturing, factory testing, commissioning, or field installation.Engineer in Training certification or progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.Work Environment The position includes office and manufacturing-facility work with occasional field assignments. Duties may require standing, walking, climbing ladders, using light tools or a multimeter, and working near moving equipment or energized circuits.
