Surgical Coordinator

Job Title

Pay Rate: $22 per hour - $25 per hour

Summary

Coordinates and schedules all required outpatient and applicable inpatient procedures, appointments, exams for the department. Ensures seamless communication between patients, surgeons, and medical staff. Maintains compliance with policies and prioritizes patient access, satisfaction, and department operations.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and schedule surgical procedures, pre-operative, and follow-up appointments.
• Secure all pertinent patient testing information.
• Produce and maintain weekly surgical log.
• Verify patient insurance.
• Identify scheduling barriers and implement solutions to improve scheduling.
• Interact with patients, physicians, and other staff within the clinic and at outside facilities.
• Assist with front desk office coverage as needed.
• Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail as applicable.
• Ensure procedure preps are mailed to patients.
• Work assigned scheduling work queue to meet established productivity, service, and volume goals.
• Plan the daily schedule of the assigned modality ahead of time, preventing scheduling conflicts.
• Obtain and enter out-patient demographic information and procedure data into the Radiology Information System and Hospital Medical Record.
• Review the Department Request forms for scheduled appointments to ensure data accuracy.
• Assist department with emergency re-scheduling due to equipment down or other events.
• Assist with incoming calls, add-on cases, and answer questions as appropriate.
• Maintain records and files as needed.
• Prepare reports relative to daily schedules as needed.
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; no prior experience required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with scheduling.
• Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
• Knowledge of insurance and billing processes preferred.
• Knowledge of EHR (Meditech/Athena/Epic) preferred.
• Ability to read and write in English.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to obtain and exchange factual information and maintain positive working relationships.
• Ability to pay close attention to details.
