Job Description:

Our client, located in the Springfield, MA area, is seeking an experienced Java/AWS Power System Software Consultant to support the EMTR Project in a hybrid capacity.

The consultant will help design, develop, modernize, and support enterprise-grade Power Systems applications used for load forecasting, outage coordination, and other critical energy operations .

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on Java development experience, cloud-native AWS expertise, and experience delivering scalable, secure, and reliable applications in mission-critical environments. This individual will work closely with system operators, planners, data engineers, cloud engineers, and other technical stakeholders throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain Java-based Power Systems applications.
• Develop scalable applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices .
• Design and implement cloud-native solutions using AWS services.
• Build and support integrations between enterprise applications and data platforms.
• Develop and maintain workflow orchestration using AWS Step Functions and related AWS services.
• Support application modernization initiatives, including cloud migration and microservices adoption.
• Ensure application reliability, scalability, security, availability, and performance.
• Collaborate with power-system operators, planners, data engineers, cloud engineers, and application teams.
• Participate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) .
• Implement application monitoring, logging, automation, and operational-support processes.
• Troubleshoot complex application, integration, database, and cloud-related issues.
• Support application enhancements, upgrades, deployments, and performance optimization.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance for architecture, modernization, and cloud-transformation initiatives.
• Support mission-critical applications used within energy and power-system operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field .
• Strong professional experience developing enterprise Java applications.
• Experience developing applications within energy, utilities, power systems, or complex large-enterprise environments .
• Senior-level candidates should have experience supporting or leading architecture, application modernization, cloud migration, or cloud-transformation initiatives .
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities within a mission-critical environment.

Exposure to ML/AI, time-series analytics, forecasting applications, or predictive analytics is also beneficial.

Work Arrangement

This position follows a hybrid work model and will require a combination of onsite and remote work in the Springfield, MA area.

Consultants working remotely or in a hybrid arrangement are required to provide their own computer equipment . ISO-NE equipment cannot be removed from ISO-NE facilities.
