Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Orthopedic Inpatient Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12.5 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of relevant nursing experience License: Valid RN License in good standing Certifications: BLS (American Heart Association) Must-Have: - Nursing process - Patient care - Documentation - Patient assessment - Care planning Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology. Maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. Implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. Modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. Takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. Confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base. Identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solution. Fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies. Assesses orthopedic and medical/surgical patients every shift. Educates orthopedic and medical/surgical patients on wound care, proper mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transition needs. Coordinates with physician and surgical partners on the care of orthopedic and medical/surgical patients. Delegates and monitors interventions of the healthcare team. Sets up orthopedic traction and manipulates surgical traction devices for mobility and wound care. Manages wound appliances such as wound vacs, drains, pouches, and other urological devices.
