SUD Counselor 

Schedule: Schedule: M-F,  9am-5pm

SUMMARY: (SUD) Counselor provides individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and treatment planning for adults receiving residential inpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders. Clients live on-site in a structured 31-bed residential program while working toward recovery. The counselor manages an average caseload of eight - twelve clients, conducts clinical assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, facilitates therapy sessions, coordinates care with the interdisciplinary team and community resources, maintains clinical documentation, and supports clients from admission through discharge using evidence-based practices and ASAM criteria.

QUALIFICATIONS: MSW, CADC . LSW, LAC, or LCADC, LCSW. LPC

Must apply for Alcohol & Drug Counselor courses

(2) years’ experience in human services fieldwork (Preferred)

Experience in substance use program management, delivery, and evaluation (Preferred)

NJ DL required

Strong understanding of symptom criteria (as outlined in the DSM) necessary to identify mental health and substance use disorders.

In-depth knowledge of the causes and effects of addiction on individuals, families and society, preferred.

Understanding of crisis management and the ability to deal with life threatening situations including the prevention of suicide and/or homicide under the guidance of the correctional center staff if needed

Understanding of addictions recovery, motivational interviewing and 12-step treatment methods

Knowledge of needs and risk assessment Comprehension of case management and record keeping practices

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

In depth knowledge and strict adherence to the Code of Ethics and client’s Bill of Rights Ability to clinically justify treatment at various level of care using ASAM criteria Ability to conduct service reviews and negotiate continued residential treatment with insurance companies, recovery court task evaluators and SAI care coordinators

Ability to conduct clinical assessments under the supervision of a Clinical Supervisor Ability to conduct a suicidal/homicidal risk assessment

Ability to identify symptoms associated with mental health and personality disorders

Effective clinical communication, both written and verbal

Ability to establish strong therapeutic alliances with clients and solid working relationships with staff

Ability to demonstrate cultural awareness, genuine positive regard and empathy regarding client concerns

Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality in performing counselor duties

Working Environment:This position operates in an office and clinical setting.

This job function uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines.

Key Performance Indicator (KPIs) # of groups, didactics, individual counseling sessions performed and documented weekly for each client on counselor’s caseload (per Annex A regulations)

100% Percentage of client documentation requirements fulfilled by end of week (goal of 100%)

Billable services provided weekly (goal of 100%)
