Senior COBOL Developer

SYSTEMTEC is seeking a Senior COBOL Developer for a on-site opportunity for candidates in Blythewood, SC. Candidate will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and supporting a mission-critical enterprise application that serves essential driver and vehicle business functions. The role combines hands-on Visual COBOL development with technical leadership, Level 3 production support, requirements analysis, and direct collaboration with business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications of the Senior COBOL Developer:

• Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to provide sponsorship or work with Third-Party agencies.
• Candidate must currently reside in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Georgia and be willing to relocate to South Carolina at least 5 business days before the start date at their own expense.
• 10+ years of experience with Visual and/or Micro Focus COBOL
• 1+ year of experience with Visual COBOL V9
• 10+ years of experience in systems analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and modification of software systems.
• 10+ years developing and maintaining complex, mission-critical applications in Windows-based client-server environments.
• 10+ years of experience leading technical software development teams through software planning and implementation.
• 10+ years of experience developing and testing complex COBOL applications using Oracle SQL databases in Windows client-server environments.
• 10+ years providing Level 3 production support for enterprise applications.
• 10+ years serving as a primary technical contact with business units to define, review, and deliver business and technical requirements.
• Ability to work independently with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills/Experience of the Senior COBOL Developer:

• Experience with Oracle 19+ SQL.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET and C# development environments.
• Previous experience working in a government environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• Visual COBOL technical certification.
• Experience with mission-critical applications supporting regulatory, legislative, or government business requirements.

Responsibilities of the Senior COBOL Developer:

• Analyze the core business application and assigned work requests to determine required enhancements, modifications, and development solutions.
• Lead technical analysis and recommend effective solutions for assigned projects and system issues.
• Work directly with business stakeholders to define business requirements, convert them into technical specifications, and obtain appropriate approval.
• Develop, test, promote, and implement solutions while working with impacted users to confirm functionality meets approved requirements.
• Provide Level 3 production support, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance for the core application.
• Deliver regular project and support status updates to development leadership and business analysis stakeholders.

Work Location: Fully onsite in Blythewood, South Carolina.
