Warehouse Manager

SUMMARY Directs resources, technology and capital to achieve best in class warehouse operations, while fully embracing and implementing lean techniques and methodology. Supervises, plans, organizes and coordinates the work of employees engaged in Shipping/Receiving personnel and picking and packing materials within the warehouse to fill customer orders in a timely manner. Oversees the utilization of hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to pick and pack materials. Prepares work schedules, assigns work, and oversees the work product. Ensures procedures are according to specifications. Also responsible for general facility maintenance & security. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree from a four-year college, five years of successful and progressive experience in warehouse operations, and supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. COMPUTER SKILLS Ability to use a personal computer; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Experience with HRIS system (SAP preferred). Ability to use web-conferencing tools such as WebEx to lead and participate in meetings. Internet familiarity. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. - Maintains a safe and productive work area.
- Reviews work orders to determine information such as material to be used, type of operations, and sequence of operations required.
- Plans production operations for the warehousedepartment, establishing priorities and sequences for receiving, shipping and kitting of products.
- Prepares operational schedules for work force and coordinates warehouse and manufacturing activities to ensure production of quality products.
- Inspects work in progress and finished product to ensure compliance to standards.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for scheduling of overtime if required.
- Travels to other locations as needed to assist with implementing unique aftermarket warehouse process and procedures.
- Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
- Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
- Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
- Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- Planning and monitoring the storage, delivery and dispatch of orders.
- Overseeing stock control and processing orders.
- Liaising with customers, suppliers and transport companies.
- Ensuring quality, delivery budget and environmental objectives are met.
- Coordinating the use of automated and computerized systems.
- Responding to and dealing with customer communication by email, fax and telephone.
- Planning future capacity requirements.
- Motivating, organizing and encouraging teamwork within the workforce to ensure set productivity targets are met.
- Producing regular reports and statistics on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Develops proprietary methods for handling product that can be used at other locations.
- Completes warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees; following up on work results.
- Creates and improves product flow throughout the warehouse operation.
- Follow up & control daily absence and over time.
Facility Management
- Fulfilling objectives and directions from the operation's headquarters
- Briefing Supervisors on a daily basis.
- Overseeing the planned maintenance of vehicles, machinery and equipment.
- Safeguards warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
- Maintains physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
- Achieves financial objectives by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
- Ensures a cooperative work environment within the warehouse and with other manufacturing and assembly areas of the company.
- Setup layout & space management; work organization chart; procedures such as SOP, 5S and all aspects of lean manufacturing.
- Planning, organizing and controlling of Warehouse's over-all operations.
- Constantly planning out all warehouse resources and activities in relation to company objectives and set targets.
- Maintain housekeeping of warehouse and surrounding area.
- Implement cost reduction principle in all aspects of warehouse transactions and activities.
- Examines defective machinery to determine cause of malfunction and reports need for machine repairs.
- Inspects machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
Miscellaneous (Supervisory)
- Is a good steward of the Company's resources and exemplifies the values of the Company.
- Prepares and tracks departmental budget.
- Ensures personal and departmental compliance with all Company policies, procedures, values, ethics, and rules, taking appropriate corrective steps as necessary.
- Maintain and promote a safe work environment through ownership of Company safety program. This includes following and enforcing all safety rules/regulations and proper operating procedures, as well as the proper use of prescribed safety equipment pertinent to the department, and immediately reporting all accidents/incidents to supervisor and Human Resources.
- Support and enforce the Company's equal employment opportunity and affirmative action policy and actions, immediately reporting violations to supervisor or the Human Resources representative.
- Ensure that personal conduct and work area is free from any form of harassment (sexual, racial, religious, etc.), immediately reporting violations to supervisor or the Human Resources representative.
- Support Company's quality and environmental programs and ensure said requirements specified for positions within the department are met; meeting quality/environment requirements specified by production drawings, bills of materials, control plans, policies, work instructions, and procedures.
- Ensure that self and all employees actively participate in and complete appropriate training (on-the-job, classroom, or otherwise) and that all training provided is evaluated and that proper documentation is provided for accurate maintenance of the employee's training record (i.e. Training Completed/Evaluation Form).
- Maintain frequent, regular two-way communication with employees to provide information on the state of the business and their performance, establishing an environment of trust.
- Meet with employees regularly to discuss their performance, with formal written performance reviews completed at least annually using the employee's job description as a basis for appraisal.
- Meets with supervisor at least once per year to review job performance using this job description as a basis for appraisal.
- Maintains complete security and confidentiality of all Company records and employee data.
- Maintains a clean, orderly and professional work environment.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned.
