Senior Accountant – Grant Accounting

This position is mostly REMOTE and has to go onsite 2 to 3 times a month.

Position Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant – Grant Accounting to oversee the financial management, reporting, and compliance of a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and privately funded grants and contracts. This individual will play a key role in ensuring grant expenditures are properly recorded, reconciled, and reported in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), sponsor requirements, and internal policies.

The ideal candidate will partner with operational leaders throughout the grant lifecycle—from award setup and budgeting through reporting and closeout—while supporting audits, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliance with all funding requirements.

Key Responsibilities

· Manage a portfolio of grants and contracts from award setup through closeout.

· Review grant expenditures for accuracy, allowability, allocability, and compliance with funding requirements.

· Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for funding agencies and internal leadership.

· Reconcile grant activity to the general ledger and research discrepancies.

· Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, revenue recognition, and funding availability.

· Prepare grant-related journal entries and ensure accurate account coding.

· Perform budget-to-actual analyses and explain significant variances.

· Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and private funding regulations.

· Support annual audits and grant-specific audits by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.

· Assist in maintaining and improving grant accounting processes and internal controls.

· Perform additional accounting and financial reporting duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

· Minimum of five (5) years of progressive grant accounting experience.

· Experience managing federally funded grants and working with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) strongly preferred.

· Strong knowledge of GAAP and grant accounting principles.

· Understanding of federal grant regulations, cost principles, and compliance requirements.

· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and financial analysis.

· Experience working with an ERP system (Oracle experience is a plus).

· Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
