Engineering Project Coordinator

Salary The salary for this position is: $84,905.10 - $94,338.99, commensurate with experience. Job Summary This position manages and coordinates tasks or components within large construction, repair, maintenance, or rehabilitation projects for City infrastructure and facilities, supporting overall project management. Duties include preparing and reviewing construction plans; coordinating with outside agencies for permits; notifying the public and answering questions regarding construction details and impact to customers; planning water and sewer routes; distributing construction assignments to contractors based on specialties; updating records after reviews of inspectors and sending results to geographic information system (GIS). The role handles routine projects and repairs of short duration, may perform engineering tasks, and oversees third‑party contracts. Essential Job Functions Coordinate and manage specific tasks related to assigned components at various project stages (programming, design, bids, contract awards, or construction); work closely with others to ensure tasks fit the overall project, ensure timely and quality completion, and monitor progress. Oversee contracted third‑party service providers to ensure timely and quality delivery of services; inspect completed work to ensure compliance with contracts; resolve problems and monitor compliance. Conduct field inspections and tests. Prepare, receive, and review construction and engineering plans, designs, and specifications; request consultants for modeling, testing, planning, and engineering studies; review and verify engineering calculations. Provide administrative and technical support to project management teams and field staff; comply with and analyze data needed to monitor project budgets and expenses; process purchases and work orders related to assignments. Apply for and maintain required permits; coordinate with federal, state, and local agencies for permits. Perform engineering analysis, troubleshooting, and preliminary design of gravity sewer collection systems and water distribution systems. Assist with the development of project descriptions and cost estimates. Assist project managers with public outreach; attend public meetings; solicit input and feedback; develop press releases and public materials. Communicate with internal and external customers; participate in related internal meetings; provide information to project management; review and resolve problems; recommend improvements. Assist with data compilation and regulatory reporting functions; facilitate adherence to reporting requirements. Review as‑built information after inspection; forward information to GIS. Attend meetings; meet general training requirements. Perform other related job duties as assigned. Minimum Requirements to Perform Work Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited school. One (1) year of related work experience in design or technical planning demonstrating responsibility for coordination of tasks in civil engineering or municipal capital improvement projects. Licenses, Certifications or Registrations Valid driver’s license. Must obtain and maintain a City Driver’s Permit. Preferred certification (or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire) as an Engineering Intern or equivalent credentials in the field of specialty. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of project management principles including initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout. Knowledge of related engineering and construction management including project design and planning. Skill in communications, both orally and in writing. Skill in applying conflict resolution techniques. Skill with AutoCAD Civil 3D for utility design, including the creation of plans and profiles. Skill with Microsoft Office products, such as Outlook, Excel, Word. Skill in GIS software, such as ArcGIS. Ability to perform project management tasks, including proactive management of critical path in project initiation, planning, implementation, and closeout. Ability to develop technical reports. Ability to apply and direct change control principles to project planning and implementation. Ability to utilize computer‑based hydraulic models for water and sewer system analysis. Ability to work cooperatively with other City employees and the public. Ability to use project scheduling software. Physical Demands The work is sedentary with occasional exertion up to 10 pounds. Required physical abilities include balancing, climbing, crouching, manual dexterity, grasping, perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, discriminating among sounds, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, shouting above noise, visual acuity, and walking. Work Environment Work is performed in a dynamic environment requiring sensitivity to change and responsiveness to priorities. Occasional on‑call emergency work may be required.
