Kitchen Assistant

Responsible for overseeing and implementing the work plan related to food preparation for participants in the Healthy Dinner Program by carrying out the preparation of menus according to established health standards.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

1. Prepare food for cooking and serving.
2. Cook food as indicated.
3. Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or service areas to ensure safe and hygienic food handling practices.
4. Ensure that food is stored at the correct temperatures, as well as the temperatures of equipment are regulated, such as ovens, grills, etc.
5. Distribute and serve food to residents, employees, or sponsors of the facilities.
6. Maintain inventories of food and equipment; as well as their corresponding records.
7. Perform assembly, installation, and repair of equipment that does not require to be carried out by certified professionals.
8. Manage and report active inventory, as well as perform the process of decommissioning inventory.
9. Receive purchases coordinated with the manager.
10. Know and comply with food handling safety requirements.
11. Perform any other task assigned by your immediate supervisor.

Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills:

• High school graduation or possession of a high school equivalency diploma. Preferably, holding a current Food Safety Certification.
• Two (2) years or more of experience in food preparation and handling for a school, restaurant, or similar facilities.

• Food Production: knowledge of techniques and equipment for planting, growing, and harvesting food products (both plant and animal) for consumption, including storage/handling techniques.
• Personal and Customer Service: knowledge of principles and processes for providing personal and customer services. This includes assessing customer needs, meeting quality service standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction.
• Production and Processing: knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
• Public Safety and Protection: knowledge of equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies relevant to promoting effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
• Handling and Moving Objects: use of hands and arms to manipulate, install, position, and move materials and manipulate things.
• Inspection of Equipment, Structures, or Materials: inspection of equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Control of Machines and Processes: use of control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).
