Position Summary Whitemarsh Township is seeking an experienced and collaborative public safety professional to serve as its next Director of Public Safety. This executive-level position oversees the coordination and cooperation of Township police, fire, and emergency services operations while serving as the Township's senior administrative official for public safety initiatives.
The Director of Public Safety works directly with the Board of Supervisors to establish organizational goals, improve interagency coordination, and ensure the effective delivery of public safety services to the community. Key Responsibilities
Work Environment & Physical Requirements This position requires work at various locations throughout and outside of Township facilities. The role may involve responding to emergency scenes and participating in physically demanding activities as necessary. Additional Requirements Must be available on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Compensation & Benefits Compensation is expected to be in the $150,000 - $180,000 range commensurate with qualifications and experience. Comprehensive benefits package included. The Director of Public Safety works directly with the Board of Supervisors to establish organizational goals, improve interagency coordination, and ensure the effective delivery of public safety services to the community. Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive oversight and coordination of police, fire, and emergency services operations.
- Develop and implement long-range strategic plans to improve departmental cooperation and efficiency.
- Recommend policies, procedures, staffing levels, and operational improvements to the Board of Supervisors.
- Monitor departmental budgets and evaluate service delivery methods and operational effectiveness.
- Coordinate projects, initiatives, and interdepartmental activities among public safety agencies.
- Prepare reports, presentations, and correspondence for the Board of Supervisors and attend public meetings as required.
- Serve as the Township representative on boards, commissions, committees, and community organizations.
- Maintain awareness of evolving public safety trends, legislation, regulations, and technologies.
- Keep Township leadership informed regarding operational developments, emergencies, and incidents that may impact the Township.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate training programs for public safety personnel.
- Maintain Emergency Management Plans and related records.
- Respond to emergencies and remain available on-call as required.
- Minimum of 10 years of public safety management experience required.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate multiple public safety agencies and stakeholders.
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred.
- Experience coordinating between public safety agencies preferred.
- Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in emergency situations.
- Strong understanding of public safety operations, emergency management, and applicable Pennsylvania laws and regulations.
