Attorney II (NS) Position Number: 65026419. Grade: LG07. The North Carolina Department of Justice represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials. This role handles litigation and appeals involving Medicaid and other public assistance programs in the Office of Administrative Hearings and state superior and appellate courts. Key Responsibilities Defend actions brought by Medicaid recipients and applicants challenging decisions related to services and eligibility. Serve as attorney for the State when convicted criminals appeal from judgments entered pursuant to trial, including post‑conviction practice: motions for relief, stay of sentence, and writ of supersedeas. Draft pleadings, discovery, and motions; prepare exhibits for trial. Practice before the Office of Administrative Hearings and other administrative tribunals. Travel Some travel, including occasional overnight stays, are required. Requirements Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar. At least one year of professional legal experience. Experience with litigation drafting, discovery, and motions. Experience practicing before the Office of Administrative Hearings or other administrative tribunals. Knowledge of Medicaid and other public assistance programs. Preferred equivalency of education and experience as per the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide.
