Youth and Family Services Division (YFS) of the Department of Social Services (DSS) provides a variation of services to safeguard children by strengthening the protective capacities of families whose children’s health, safety and well-being are at risk. This is an exempt (salaried) position. Due to the hours of operation, members of the Social Work Supervisor Afterhours team are awarded a one ‑time 5% shift premium. Pay rates are based on education, skill, experience level, and internal equity. Internal equity considerations include an assessment of the applicant’s salary history and qualifications in comparison to the market rate and requirements for the job. Position Summary The Social Work Supervisor provides direct supervision, training, support, review, and evaluation of professional technical and para‑professional staff involved in areas which could include Social Services. This position compiles reports and data to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures as well as assignment and monitoring of cases. This position provides feedback to staff to enhance their capabilities to perform efficiently. This position is located at 10101 David Taylor Dr., Charlotte, NC 28262. This a rotating schedule with a shift of 11:00pm – 8:00am during the week and on weekends 6:00pm – 6:00am. Position is expected to work holidays on a rotating schedule. Candidate must obtain fingerprint clearance to access the KBCOP database within 90 days of hire. Essential Functions Supervise, train and evaluate the performance of technical and para‑professional staff Consult with teams and staff on individual case assignments Develop procedures to meet department or program goals, ensuring adherence to regulatory guidelines. Reviews information with teams or staff members to provide guidance and direction in the delivery of services Establish performance objectives, conducts periodic reviews and monitors progress Monitor budget activities and adjusts expenditures and makes recommendations as appropriate Review and audits staff cases and workloads to prioritize duties and referrals for new cases Complete monthly and quarterly program reports Provide consultation to staff in complex case situations, acute emergencies, or cases which require a high level decision Communicate with and visit other public and private welfare agencies, hospitals and other institutions in order to exchange information and develop resources Seek additional sources to increase funding and expand services Review and analyze activity reports and statistics for continuous awareness of program operation May be required to staff shelters in the event of a disaster Minimum Qualifications Experience: Minimum of five years of social services or human services experience. Education: Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Health, or related field. Combination of relevant education and relevant experience accepted? Yes Preferred Qualifications Master's in Social Work or related degree preferred Bilingual applicants with Spanish and English proficiency preferred. Will be required to pass the County’s Bilingual Assessment in order to receive a paid Bilingual Premium. Three years of Child Protective Services experience preferred Two years of supervisory experience preferred Knowledge General social work principles and available resources Social services procedures, practices, and methods Social services related federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations relating to provision of public assistance, and social welfare Case management methods and techniques Services offered by the county and other local public and private community‑based service agencies Skills Interpreting and implementing local, state, and federal regulations that govern Health and Human Services Explaining and advocating for the needs of children, families, the elderly, disable adults and the impoverished Demonstrated leadership skills Excellent communication skills – both written and spoken Abilities Adaptability: Maintaining effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures Building Partnerships: Identifying opportunities and taking action to build strategic relationships between one’s area and other areas, teams, departments, units, or organizations to help achieve business goals Building Trust: Interacting with others in a way that instills confidence in one’s intentions and those of the organization Communication: Clearly conveying information and ideas through a variety of media to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the information provided Decision Making: Identifying and understanding issues, problems, and opportunities; comparing data from different sources to draw conclusions; using effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing appropriate solutions; taking action that is consistent with available facts, constraints, and probable consequences Delegating Responsibility: Allocating decision‑making authority and/or task responsibility to appropriate others to maximize the organizations and individuals’ effectiveness Managing Conflict: Dealing effectively with others in an antagonistic situation; using appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to reduce tension or conflict between two or more people Computer Skills Proficient in various computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.
