Job Description:

Our client is a mission driven organization that provides financial security to members and their families through their life insurance, long-term care insurance, disability income insurance, investment and annuity products. Charity is at the core of their activities their profits are donated to help those in need.

The organization is hiring two (2) Underwriters. Both roles are fully remote. The current team members are located in the east coast. The client is open to individuals living in other parts of the country.

The selected candidates will have the responsibility to underwrite individual life insurance contracts ranging in amounts through $500,000. Occasionally the individual may assist on applications of higher amounts subject to review by a higher ranking Underwriter.

Specific Responsibilities include:

• Appraise, classify, and take action to approve or decline applications for new insurance, changes of plan, conversions, exchanges, reinstatements, and additions of benefits.
• Determine extra premiums for medical impairments and special hazards such as aviation, occupation, foreign residence and travel, and unusual avocations.
• Classifie each insurance applicant to eliminate adverse selection while maintaining equitable mortality.
• Communicate with field force and Home Office personnel regarding insurance applications and adjustments.
• Answer routine inquiries from other departments and field force concerning the underwriting policies, practices, and procedures related to individual applications.

Qualifications:

BS or BA degree is required.

Life Office Management Association (LOMA) and Academy of Life Underwriting (ALU) coursework is a plus; certifications and/or work toward becoming a Fellow, Academy of Life Underwriting (FALU) or Fellow, Life Management institute (FLMI) is attractive

2 plus years of individual life underwriting experience is required

Knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy; the ability to understand and apply medical knowledge to insurance applications is important

Knowledge of federal and state insurance regulations is preferred

Strong business judgment/risk assessment skills is necessary

Effective oral and written communication skills are needed
