RN Clinical Nurse II - Medical Surgical ICU

Additionally, this position qualifies for relocation assistance (when applicable) and our employee referral program.* The UNC Rex Medical Surgical ICU is a 20‑bed, adult and geriatric medical, surgical and overflow of cardiac and neuro intensive care unit that serves patients with complex medical conditions requiring intensive care. It provides direct post‑operative recovery for patients from major surgery. Nurses on the unit perform advanced critical care procedures such as ARDS management on a ventilator, proning, active titration of vasoactive drips, sedation, complex therapies including Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and Target Temperature Management Therapy (TTM). Bedside procedures also include Percutaneous Tracheostomy and bronchoscopic interventions performed by staff. Summary: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to and accountable to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse coordinates and delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Responsibilities Education – Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self, attending education programs based on identified learning needs, using patient education materials relevant to the patient population, and assessing readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers. Evaluation of Care – Identifies expected patient outcomes, seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care, participates in interdisciplinary discussions, and communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Implementation – Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, performs bedside point‑of‑care testing as required, utilizes organizational policies and procedures, organizes and prioritizes care, and consults with resources for complex care issues. Leadership – Develops goals for professional growth, achieves goals within time frames, facilitates intra/interdepartmental collaboration, participates in unit goals and performance improvement, promotes cost‑effective care, provides feedback to co‑workers, and maintains a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment. Patient Assessment – Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities, includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs, synthesizes assessment data, and develops relationships with families to support their advocacy. Planning – Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, uses multidisciplinary resources, addresses cultural and ethnic issues, and prioritizes tasks for patients with complex problems. Research – Reads relevant journals, brings ideas and questions to staff for assessment of applicability. Education Requirements Graduation from a school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing within seven years of employment date. Licensure/Certification Requirements Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. Professional Experience Requirements One (1) year of nursing experience.
