We are looking for an Assistant Controller to help lead accounting and administrative operations for a construction company in East Rochester, New York. This position partners closely with the Controller to support accurate reporting, dependable financial processes, and effective coordination across accounting, payroll, human resources, equipment administration, and office support functions. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership ability, and experience working in a fast-paced project-based environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead daily accounting and administrative activities, ensuring core business functions are completed accurately and on schedule.

• Guide and support accounting and office personnel by delegating assignments, reviewing output, and promoting high-quality work standards.

• Coach team members through training, feedback, and performance discussions, including completion of annual evaluations and recommendations on staffing matters.

• Partner with project managers and operational leaders to address financial questions, clarify reporting, and support sound business decisions.

• Help strengthen accounting procedures by contributing to documented policies, workflow standards, and internal control practices.

• Complete daily cash reconciliations and prepare monthly bank account balancing to maintain accurate records.

• Administer key recurring accounting tasks such as credit card oversight, sales and use tax filings, prepaid insurance entries, depreciation, and equipment-related cost adjustments.

• Maintain fixed asset documentation for acquisitions and disposals while assisting with audit preparation and responses to external auditors.

• Provide coordination and front-line support for office technology issues by working with internal staff and external service resources as needed.

• 5+ years of accounting experience, including progressive responsibility in a supervisory or accounting leadership capacity.

• Background in construction accounting with knowledge of project-based financial operations and reporting.

• Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger management, and preparation of financial reports.

• Familiarity with financial statement audit support and responding to audit documentation requests.

• Working knowledge of sales tax compliance, fixed asset accounting, and depreciation processes.

• Ability to build structure, maintain internal controls, and improve accounting procedures in a multi-function office environment.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across accounting, operations, and administrative teams.
