Spec Building Materials Corporation, a premier wholesale distributor of building materials since 1974, is seeking a Head of Talent Acquisition based out of our Kansas City, KS office. As an industry leader for over five decades, our continued success relies on finding, hiring, and retaining top-tier talent. This leadership role is charged with identifying our current hiring needs, collaborating directly with our Regional Managers, and developing a deep talent bench to secure the future growth of our company

Job Summary
The Head of Talent Acquisition will be a seasoned professional who can clearly demonstrate a successful track record of recruiting and identifying top talent in the building materials, distribution, or logistics industries. This position reports directly to the VP of Operations and balances hands-on full-cycle recruitment for critical roles with the strategic oversight of company-wide hiring practices, recruitment metrics, and employer brand alignment.

Strategic Leadership & Branch Partnership

• Report directly to the VP of Operations to align recruitment strategies with company growth, capacity planning, and regional operational goals.
• Collaborate closely with Regional Managers to understand local market challenges and anticipate regional staffing needs.
• Develop a robust talent bench across all territories to secure the future growth and scalability of the corporation.
• Track recruitment metrics and analyze data for strategic talent planning, forecasting, and process optimization.
• Design and execute comprehensive job announcements detailing specific experience, education, and skills.
• Train and guide hiring managers on modern interview techniques, compliance, and positive candidate experiences.

Sourcing & Pipeline Development

• Source and attract qualified candidates using advanced methods, including databases, online job boards, and industry-specific networking.
• Utilize cold and warm calling techniques to proactively hunt passive talent and executive leadership within the building materials space.
• Cultivate and maintain professional relationships with colleges, trade schools, and local organizations.
• Represent the company at job fairs, industry trade shows, and high-level networking events.

Selection & Candidate Evaluation

• Engage with potential applicants via phone, email, and face-to-face interactions to champion the Spec Building Materials brand.
• Review resumes and conduct deep-dive interviews to assess suitability for corporate, sales, and distribution roles.
• Utilize behavioral interviewing techniques to evaluate candidate competency, culture fit, and long-term potential.

• Conduct thorough investigations into referrals, professional references, and social media profiles to gain a comprehensive understanding of applicants.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Industry Experience: Proven, seasoned experience in recruiting, with a preferred track record within the building materials, industrial distribution, wholesale supply, or related high-volume sector.
• Sourcing Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in using both cold and warm calling techniques to build relationships and secure top talent.
• Technical Savvy: Advanced familiarity with Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), modern sourcing tools, and social media platforms for recruitment purposes.
• Analytical Ability: Strong analytical skills to interpret recruitment data, identify hiring bottlenecks, and build data-driven hiring strategies.
• Communication Excellence: Professional and courteous communication skills, both over the phone and in person, with the ability to influence leadership.
• Brand Stewardship: Maintains an exemplary public image, including on personal social media platforms, to positively reflect the corporation.
• Interpersonal Strength: Exceptional interpersonal abilities, particularly in networking, building professional relationships, and partnering with internal regional stakeholders.
