Manager Of Billing Operations

District Partners has been engaged to identify a Manager of Billing Operations for a highly regarded, multi-practice professional services organization with a prominent national and international presence. This is a high-impact leadership role within a mature Finance function, offering meaningful ownership of billing operations, team development, and process transformation.

The Manager of Billing will oversee multiple billing teams, drive compliance with client billing requirements, and serve as a key partner to Finance leadership on revenue cycle strategy. This individual will bring both operational rigor and a collaborative leadership style to a team-oriented environment.

Team Leadership & Development

• Lead and manage multiple billing teams (5–8 staff per team), including hiring, onboarding, delegation, and performance management.

• Foster a culture of proactiveness, accountability, and professional growth across the billing function.

• Contribute to training initiatives and the ongoing development of billing staff.

Billing Operations & Quality Control

• Oversee end-to-end billing processes for assigned teams; coordinate with billing attorneys and team members to ensure timely and accurate invoice generation.

• Ensure quality and integrity of the client billing process; identify and implement best practices aligned with Finance department objectives.

• Serve as the primary point of escalation for complex billing issues, driving timely and accurate resolution.

• Review weekly eBilling Status Reports (ESR) to ensure teams are actioning rejected and unsubmitted invoices and keeping billing attorneys informed of status.

Compliance & Client Requirements

• Ensure compliance with firm billing policies and outside counsel guidelines; partner with Billing Compliance on effective dissemination of guidelines to the team.

• Escalate non-compliance with Finance and billing policy as appropriate.

• Partner with the Rates team on changes to rate arrangements and monitor billing instructions for accuracy; provide guidance on execution in 3E.

Inventory Management & Collections

• Collaborate with Collections and Billing Compliance to minimize delays and leakage throughout the inventory cycle.

• Lead outreach efforts on aged inventory with billing attorneys and Department/Practice leaders; prepare materials for monthly reviews.

Reporting, Systems & Audit

• Act as a point of escalation for complex reporting requests.

• Partner with Finance Systems to improve billing system workflows and drive technical enhancements.

• Contribute to monthly department meetings and play a key role in the annual financial audit process.

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years of progressive billing experience in a law firm or professional services environment, including direct supervisory responsibility.

• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and performance manage billing teams in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.

• Strong knowledge of billing systems — particularly 3E and eBillingHub — and fluency with common eBilling vendor portals.

• Experience working with outside counsel guidelines and managing eBilling compliance.

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with attorneys, Finance leadership, and operational staff.

• Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously; comfortable making decisions and having difficult conversations.

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or equivalent experience preferred.
