Responsibilities & Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

• Performs pre-analytic processing of specimens; collects specimens; accessions, labels and distributes specimens including blood samples by venipuncture and capillary puncture in all patient areas
• Instructs patients in the collection of urine samples and tolerance test in all patient areas.
• Other duties assigned

Job Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old and/or high school graduation or the equivalent.
• Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy or laboratory tech training program is preferred. Ability to remember and consistently apply all the details necessary to collect and transport specimens properly and to use the laboratory computer.
• Ability to write or print clearly.
• Ability to accurately identify patients and recognize any differences in spelling of names or listing of hospital numbers.
• Ability to communicate well to and get along with patients and other hospital and laboratory personnel.
• Ability to learn to use basic computer programs.
• Ability to work under pressure.
• Demonstrates responsibility to patients and to other members of the health care team.
• Ability to perform EKG testing if required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Ability to perform tests on CLIA waived test systems once trained and remain competent.
• BLS - Basic Life Support required.

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 year experience preferred and/or graduation from phlebotomy program
