Job Title: Data Center Crew Lead / Low Voltage Technician Job Description
The Data Center Crew Lead is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supervising, training, and working alongside technicians who install structured cabling and security systems in data center environments. This position serves as the primary field leader, ensuring that all projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in full alignment with customer specifications, while actively participating in daily installation, testing, and commissioning activities.
Responsibilities- Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of technicians performing structured cabling and security system installations in data center environments.
- Work directly in the field to install, terminate, test, troubleshoot, and commission copper and fiber optic cabling, access control systems, and CCTV systems.
- Train and develop technicians on proper installation methods, industry standards, safety practices, and correct tool usage to ensure consistent quality.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards while ensuring all work complies with project drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, rack elevations, and low-voltage system drawings to plan and execute installations accurately.
- Perform and verify cable testing, certification, and documentation for copper and fiber optic infrastructure to meet performance and compliance standards.
- Oversee the installation of security devices including card readers, door contacts, cameras, access control panels, and associated cabling.
- Coordinate daily work plans, material requirements, and manpower assignments to meet project schedules and milestones.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, project managers, and customer representatives to ensure clear communication and issue resolution.
- Conduct job site safety meetings, enforce safety procedures, and maintain compliance with site-specific rules and OSHA requirements.
- Identify and resolve field issues promptly while providing technical guidance and support to crew members.
- Ensure all installations of low voltage wiring, including CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, are neat, labeled, and completed to industry standards.
- Monitor and support troubleshooting activities for low voltage, access control, and CCTV systems to minimize downtime and service disruptions.
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage systems, security installations, or data center environments.
- Previous experience leading crews while remaining actively involved in hands-on installation work.
- Strong knowledge of copper and fiber optic cabling, including installation, testing, certification, and troubleshooting.
- Experience installing and supporting access control systems, including card readers, door contacts, and access control panels.
- Experience installing and supporting CCTV systems and related infrastructure.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, cable schedules, rack elevations, and low-voltage system drawings.
- Proficiency with CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, including pulling, terminating, and testing.
- Demonstrated ability to coach, teach, and develop technicians with varying skill levels.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for low voltage and security systems in data center or similar technical environments.
- Ability to coordinate daily work plans, material needs, and manpower assignments to meet project deadlines.
- Solid understanding of safety practices and OSHA requirements relevant to low voltage and data center work.
- Hands-on experience with low voltage wiring for various systems, including data, access control, and CCTV.
- Familiarity with structured cabling standards and best practices in data center environments.
- Experience conducting and documenting cable testing and certification for both copper and fiber optic infrastructure.
- Background in wiring and terminating low voltage systems in commercial or mission-critical facilities.
- Comfort working as the primary field point of contact with project managers and customer representatives.
- Strong communication skills to lead crews, deliver clear instructions, and provide feedback.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and resolve field issues efficiently.

Work EnvironmentThis role is based primarily in data center environments, where you will work on structured cabling and low voltage security systems, including copper and fiber optic infrastructure, access control, and CCTV. You will spend most of your time on active job sites, performing physical tasks such as pulling wire, routing and terminating CAT5 and CAT6 cabling, installing devices, and using hand and power tools appropriate for low voltage installations. The schedule typically follows standard construction or project-based hours, with work organized around project milestones and daily work plans. You will participate in regular job site safety meetings and are expected to follow all site rules and OSHA requirements. The environment is highly technical and process-driven, with a focus on clean, organized installations and adherence to project drawings, specifications, and documentation. Dress and personal protective equipment will align with typical construction and data center standards, including appropriate work attire and required safety gear.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Lebanon, IN.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $26.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
