Position Summary: ACCESS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE (ACCESS) seeks a Director of Operations with a deep commitment to reproductive justice. This position will work to further ACCESS’ mission, vision and values by overseeing the day-to-day financial management of the organization, managing and further developing our human resources and benefits programs, and spearheading the organization’s various operations activities. About the Role, Reporting Relationships, and Overview: The Director of Operations is joining a team that has grown from a staff of 2 to 15 since January 2021. The role is expected to provide direction, strategy and oversight of ACCESS’ infrastructure, financial and administrative systems, continuing to scale the organization’s operations systems and procedures for long-term sustainability. This position will supervise the Finance and Grants Manager and any future Operations and Administration team members.They will work collaboratively with all members of the Staff, Board, as well as various consultants. This role would be ideal for a systems thinker who is experienced in scaling infrastructure and systems with values alignment at the center. What You’ll Do and What Success Will Look Like Finance Monitor accounts payable and receivable, review monthly statements and ensure ACCESS maintains accurate financial records that are in line with organizational procedures. Supervise the banking activities and relationships currently held by the Finance & Grants Manager. Support the implementation of the organization’s budget, including making recommendations on internal and operations costs. Evaluate the financial position and health of the organization through routine reviews of financial statements. Ensure ACCESS is in compliance with annual tax filing, state filings, and/or audit. Human Resources and Employee Relations Manage employee recruitment, onboarding, compensation program and benefits while ensuring operations are aligned with the organization’s mission, vision and values. Ensure payroll is processed and paid out according to the payroll schedule and liaison with our payroll company as needed. Advise Executive Director and Board of Directors in matters related to employment practices and HR programs. Manage a staff development and performance evaluation system that drives high employee engagement and performance, rooted in ACCESS’ mission, vision and values. Assess staff development needs related to training, mentorship, and professional development programs. Report to the Executive Director (and Board of Directors when needed) on HR metrics and provide any necessary support. Maintain employee files; ensure minimum requirements for employment and compliance with relevant laws, etc. Implement HR policies and practices that foster a positive, compliant working environment aligned with ACCESS RJ’s mission and values. Respond to grievances according to ACCESS’ grievance policy and procedures. Support productive management and employee relations by helping resolve workplace challenges. Ensure conflict resolution and grievance procedures reflect equity and anti-oppression principles. Root all decision making, policy development, compensation and benefit plan design within ACCESS’ mission, vision, and values. Facilitate management training and policies, practices, and procedures with a lens towards equity and inclusion to meet organizational and strategic plan goals. Compliance In partnership with outside legal counsel, oversee: risk management and contracts, including: business and property insurance, contracts, leases and other legal documents and agreements development and adherence to vendor (consultants included) relationship best practices and contractual management ensuring legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions. Ensure compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations throughout human resource management What We Are Looking For As ACCESS attempts to practice anti-racist and values-aligned hiring practices, we do not require a college degree or an explicit number of years experience with certain skills. Relevant experience in nonprofit financial management, human resources and/or Operations. Experience managing and or supervising other individuals. Proven track record as a self-starter who can thrive with minimal supervision, solve problems creatively and independently. Superior organizational skills, able to maintain a high level of confidentiality, attention to detail, and accuracy while also balancing competing projects and timelines. Demonstrated good judgment and emotional intelligence with colleagues, Board of Directors, funders, donors, and allies. Strong and effective communication skills. Tech savvy, comfortable interacting with many different systems including cloud-based services and smartphone apps. Google Suite and/or Microsoft Suite, BambooHR, Salesforce, Dialpad, Slack and/or Box experience is a plus. A deep commitment to personal wellness with a strong level of self-awareness for self-care. Commitment to working in a People of Color-led, community-based, non-profit organization, and invested in fostering a trauma-informed model of community care within ACCESS. Bonus Qualifications: Personal experience with abortion, adoption, and/or parenting. Experience with ACCESS’ programs, as a volunteer, intern, or caller. Experience in abortion funding, mutual aid, and/or practical support organizations. Hours and Location: This position is full-time and fully remote within the State of California. ACCESS RJ currently operates on a staggered 4-Day workweek. All staff work a M-TH or T-F schedule, which will be established upon hire. All ACCESS RJ employees are required to be based in the state of California. ACCESS RJ meets twice annually for in-person staff retreats and attendance is required. Other local or national travel opportunities are available pending staff’s interest and availability. Flexibility to work some nights or weekends required. Compensation: ACCESS RJ is committed to pay transparency. In 2025, we implemented a Fixed Salary Policy. This policy, implemented to foster transparency, equity, and non-hierarchical leadership, sets predetermined salaries based solely on job titles and the work expected within each role. This approach ensures fair and consistent compensation across our organization. The Director of Operations position is an exempt, full-time position with a salary of $105,060. ACCESS RJ offers a generous benefits package including health, vision, dental and life insurance with no share-of-cost for the employee, a 401(k) plan with 5% employer match, 15 days of paid vacation in the first 2 years of employment and 20 days of paid vacation after the first 2 years of employment, paid sick/wellness time, family and medical leave, a wellness stipend, and opportunities for professional development and growth.
