Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1 In-Training) - Renton-Kent

Position Overview Full‑time, permanent Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2) within the Community Corrections Division. The role may begin in‑training at the CCO1 level and advance to CCO2. Located at the Renton Field Office, 1404 Central Ave South, Kent, WA 98030. Shift hours are 0800‑1700, Monday‑Friday. Salary is based on qualifications and ranges from $4,880.00 to $7,994.00 monthly, with additional benefits such as a 5% premium for King County duty stations and a free ORCA card for eligible employees. Responsibilities Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests. Complete intake and manage electronic and hard‑copy files and reports. Administer assessments for risk, needs, and substance abuse. Engage with supervised individuals (S/Is) using communication strategies, including Motivational Interviewing and Principles of Effective Interventions. Enforce supervision conditions and the law; present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; make sanction recommendations for courts and hearings. Identify, collect, document, process, and maintain evidence, ensuring proper chain of custody. Exercise sound judgment and follow department policies regarding the maintenance, security, handling, and discharge of department‑issued firearms. Ensure proper safety and security measures while armed and when meeting S/Is outside the office, including wearing a safety vest as outlined in policy. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Required Qualifications – CCO1 Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm. Unrestricted, valid Washington state driver’s license. Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; examine graphic materials and remain objective. Demonstrated ability via college‑level coursework or experience in at least three of the following: written communication, critical thinking, analytical reasoning, conflict resolution, situational awareness, problem solving, work independently, flexibility. Education and experience combinations: High school diploma or GED AND at least four years of qualifying experience. Associate or technical degree AND two years of qualifying experience. Bachelor’s degree. Or equivalent education and/or experience totaling four years. Minimum Required Qualifications – CCO2 Ability to carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm. Unrestricted, valid Washington state driver’s license. Willingness and ability to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds and anti‑social behaviors; examine graphic materials and remain objective. Demonstrated ability via college‑level coursework or professional experience in at least three of the following: field visits, written correspondence, case assessment, resource referral, court presentation, risk assessment, treatment plan facilitation, resource identification, clear oral and written communication, independent and collaborative work with stakeholders. Education and experience combinations: One year experience as a CCO within the DOC. Associate or technical degree AND three years of professional experience. Bachelor’s degree AND one year of professional experience. Or equivalent education and/or experience totaling five years. Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment Complete a felony disclosure form and submit to a criminal background check. Pass a psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview). Submit to drug testing and complete all required training and orientation within mandated timeframes. Comply with department policies and collective bargaining agreements. Successfully complete the Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics training; maintain eligibility and qualifications per federal and state law.
