Asst/Assoc/Professor - Headache and Pain US-OR-Portland Department Overview This position reports to the Chair of the Dept of Neurology and the Head of the Section of Headache. The Headache Center was established in 2016 within the Department of Neurology. It provides care for patients with headache and facial pain. Patients can be seen in a multidisciplinary clinic staffed by a neurologist and an orofacial pain specialist. The Center offers procedures such as occipital nerve block, trigger point injection, and botulinum toxin injection. For patients with documented intracranial hypertension, ocular ultrasounds are offered to monitor optic nerve sheath diameter, an indirect marker for intracranial pressure. Function/Duties of Position The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service. The candidate should have demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching/mentorship. The most desired candidate will also have an interest or experience in research, scholarship, discovery, and/or administrative leadership. Teach trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise. Teaching is performed through assigned lectures and through everyday clinical practice by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, and delegating graduated responsibilities. Provide an outstanding level of professional performance in clinical care, compliant with all applicable regulations and guidelines. Treat all patients, research subjects, trainees, and co‑workers with dignity and respect. May maintain a program of scholarly research activities directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases. May develop and direct scholarly research focused on improving the educational foundation within Neurology. May engage in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non‑University groups, and may participate in departmental or hospital administration as approved by the Chair. Required Qualifications Doctorate in medicine and residency training in Neurology. Demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching. Current unlimited Oregon MD/DO (or equivalent) license prior to start. Registered with the Federal Drug Administration and authorized to prescribe medications. Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Neurology is required. UCNS‑certified Headache Fellowship completion. Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research, scholarship, or discovery. Compliance Code of conduct. Respect in the workplace. Applicable laws, policies, procedures, and agreements related to the position, department, or OHSU as a whole. All duties and responsibilities of the Neurology provider conform to the credentialing process, the OHSU Hospital Medical Staff and University Medical Group guidelines.
