Role Description Under general nursing and medical direction, utilizing standardized procedures, the Nurse Practitioner functions within an organized system for the delivery of health care in association with other members of the multidisciplinary health care team and performs specialized nurse practitioner duties in clinical settings. The Essential Functions Include, But Are Not Limited To Provides routine preventative and continuity of care to adult and/or pediatric patients; this may include complete history and physical examinations. Orders diagnostic tests, which may include laboratory tests, X-rays and other imaging, E.K.G.’s, and other disease or condition specific diagnostic tests. Identifies and manages patients with unstable chronic diseases appropriate to clinical specialty. Provides urgent care to acutely ill patients. Acute care planning for patients in an inpatient setting. Assesses and diagnosis, develops treatment plans, and furnishes medications. Counsels and educates patients, and collaborates with healthcare team. Consults with physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of unstable and complex patient conditions. One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience as a Registered Nurse on a psychiatric inpatient unit, psychiatric emergency service clinic or mental health center. One (1) year (equivalent to 2,000 hours) of experience in a setting that treats HIV, AIDS, and Sexually Transmitted Infections. One-year full-time employment is equivalent to 2,000 hours (2,000 hours of qualifying work experience is based on a 40-hour work week).
