Med Surg Nurse RN

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse on the Med Surg Unit is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients across Medical/Surgical, Swing Bed, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) levels. This role involves balancing patient assignments based on nursing workload and patient acuity, ensuring quality care and patient safety. The nurse collaborates with supervisors and interdisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive care during night shifts in a supportive and engaged environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care to patients in Medical/Surgical, Swing Bed, and PCU settings.
• Manage patient assignments with ratios of 1:5 for Med Surg, 1:5-6 for Swing Bed, and 1:3-4 for PCU depending on patient needs and drips.
• Perform patient assessments, medication administration, and treatment planning.
• Collaborate with supervisors to ensure appropriate patient assignments and care delivery.
• Participate in unit committees and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain documentation and communicate effectively with interdisciplinary team members.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably in Medical/Surgical or related acute care settings.
• Strong clinical assessment and medication administration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Swing Bed and Progressive Care Unit patients.
• Familiarity with managing patients on drips and higher acuity care.
• Previous participation in nursing committees or quality improvement projects.

Special Considerations:

• Night shift position from 7 PM to 7 AM.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• Work every other weekend and every other holiday.
• Supportive team environment with shared decision-making culture.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour night shifts, scheduled 7 PM to 7 AM.
• Rotating schedule with every other weekend and holiday off.
