Engineering Technician

Job Summary This is a standard technician position within the Department of Buildings (DOB) whose mission is to protect the safety of residents, businesses, and visitors and advance the development of the built environment through permitting, inspections, and code enforcement. Duties and Responsibilities Performs a wide range of technical research, analysis, evaluation, production, maintenance of projects, systems, processes, equipment, devices, and/or materials in assigned projects. Drafts plats for customer delivery in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and timely delivers the products to customers. Provides customer support through multiple platforms. Performs any or all of the following or similar functions: analysis and research, drafting, filing, customer communication, and collaboration with internal and external partners. Performs other related duties as assigned. This position includes general duties and responsibilities required of an engineering technician related to drafting assignments, projects, communications, and administrative support for the office's program and its processes. This position requires the application of practical knowledge of the methods and techniques of engineering or architecture, the construction, application, properties, operations, and limitations of engineering systems, processes, structures, machinery, devices, and materials. The Engineering Technician is responsible for performing a variety of engineering technician assignments and projects in support of the engineering program and its processes. Qualifications and Education Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience is highly preferred. Licenses and Certifications Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License Working Conditions/Environment Work is conducted in an office setting; however, fieldwork is required.
