Position Overview

An established, multi-state healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Director of Payroll to lead enterprise payroll operations and provide strategic oversight for payroll services supporting a large national workforce. This leadership role combines operational management with Oracle Payroll expertise, working closely with HR, Finance, and IT to ensure payroll accuracy, compliance, and ongoing system optimization.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct enterprise payroll operations across a large, multi-state organization.
• Lead a payroll leadership team consisting of Payroll Managers and a sizeable payroll staff.
• Serve as the functional business leader for Oracle Payroll and collaborate with HR, Finance, and IT on system enhancements and optimization.
• Manage post-implementation Oracle Payroll activities, including quarterly release testing, payroll validation, issue resolution, and enhancement requests.
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Identify and implement process improvements that increase operational efficiency and strengthen payroll controls.
• Enhance payroll reporting capabilities and system functionality through cross-functional collaboration.
• Support the continued transition of payroll functions into the organization's internal operations.
• Promote continuous improvement initiatives and maintain best practices across payroll operations.

Work Schedule

• Hybrid position based in Brentwood, Tennessee.
• Regular onsite attendance is required.
• Up to 20% travel.
• Fully remote candidates will not be considered.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience within a large, complex enterprise.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Oracle Payroll, including Oracle Fusion Payroll and/or Oracle Payroll Cloud.
• Proven experience supporting Oracle Payroll after implementation, including:
  • Quarterly release testing
  • Payroll validation
  • Troubleshooting
  • Enhancement requests
  • Ongoing system optimization
• Experience serving as the payroll business lead or subject matter expert partnering with HRIS, HR, Finance, and IT teams.
• Strong leadership experience managing payroll operations and payroll teams.
• Multi-state payroll leadership experience in an enterprise environment.
• Strong understanding of payroll compliance, payroll accounting, and operational best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Oracle Payroll implementation experience.
• Experience within a shared services environment.
• Payroll process automation and continuous improvement experience.
• Payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliation knowledge.
• Healthcare industry experience strongly preferred.
