Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 3 Days In Office / 2 Days Remote) Compensation: Up to $250,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus Position Summary We are seeking an accomplished Vice President of Tax to lead all aspects of the organization's tax strategy, planning, compliance, reporting, and transaction support. Reporting to executive leadership, this highly visible position will serve as the senior tax executive responsible for developing tax strategies that support business growth, operational objectives, and enterprise value creation. The successful candidate will be a strategic business partner with extensive experience in private equity-backed organizations, mergers and acquisitions, partnership taxation, and complex legal entity structures. This executive will work closely with senior leadership, ownership, and external advisors to ensure tax considerations are integrated into strategic business decisions while maintaining compliance across a sophisticated multi-entity organization. Key Responsibilities Lead all corporate tax functions, including tax planning, compliance, reporting, audits, and risk management. Serve as the primary tax advisor to executive leadership on strategic initiatives, acquisitions, restructurings, and organizational growth. Lead tax due diligence and provide strategic support for mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, integrations, and other corporate transactions. Evaluate transaction structures and recommend tax-efficient solutions that align with business objectives. Oversee tax matters across a complex legal entity structure, including both C-corporations and partnership entities. Manage partnership tax reporting, including oversight of Schedule K-1 preparation and timely delivery to investors and stakeholders. Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Legal, Human Resources, and Operations to incorporate tax considerations into key business decisions. Monitor changes in federal, state, and local tax legislation and proactively assess organizational impacts. Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory agencies. Identify opportunities to improve tax efficiency, strengthen internal controls, reduce risk, and enhance financial performance. Support executive presentations, ownership reporting, lender communications, and board materials related to tax matters. Develop scalable tax policies, governance processes, and compliance procedures to support continued growth. Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing tax organization while fostering a collaborative, business-oriented culture. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field. CPA and/or Master's in Taxation strongly preferred. Minimum of 15 years of progressive corporate tax experience, including leadership roles within complex organizations. Required experience working within a private equity-backed company. Required experience supporting mergers and acquisitions , including tax due diligence, transaction structuring, integration planning, and post-acquisition execution. Deep expertise in partnership taxation and C-corporation tax structures within complex multi-entity organizations. Demonstrated experience managing Schedule K-1 reporting and partnership tax compliance. Strong understanding of private equity ownership structures, investor reporting requirements, and partnership arrangements. Experience advising executive leadership on complex tax matters and translating technical concepts into practical business recommendations. Proven success operating within sophisticated, multi-state, multi-entity organizations. Excellent leadership, communication, project management, and relationship-building skills. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading tax organizations through periods of rapid growth and acquisition activity. Strong background supporting highly acquisitive organizations. Experience implementing scalable tax processes, automation, and internal controls. Demonstrated success partnering with executive leadership, ownership groups, and external advisors on strategic initiatives. Ensures timely and accurate tax compliance across all legal entities while minimizing organizational risk. Serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on strategic tax matters and business initiatives. Identifies tax planning opportunities that improve cash flow, optimize tax positions, and enhance enterprise value. Builds scalable tax processes capable of supporting continued organizational growth. Creates strong partnerships across Finance, Accounting, Legal, and executive leadership while fostering a collaborative, high-performing tax function.
