Vice President of Accounting

A well-established, Chicago-based private family office is seeking a Vice President of Corporate Accounting to serve as the financial backbone of its day-to-day operations with full ownership of accounting, financial reporting, treasury, payroll, budgeting, and insurance across a complex multi-entity structure. This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the President, ideal for a seasoned accounting executive who brings deep technical expertise, genuine operational ownership, and the discretion and judgment that a sophisticated private organization demands. What You'll Do: Own the full-cycle accounting function across all management company entities including general ledger, chart of accounts, subsidiary records, and intercompany transactions and allocations Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process and prepare consolidated financial reports and variance analyses for senior leadership Maintain accounting records in compliance with tax basis of accounting; establish and document consistent accounting policies and procedures Lead the annual budget process, coordinating with department heads on operating expense budgets, compensation planning, and headcount forecasting Oversee daily cash management across all operating accounts; develop and maintain short- and medium-term cash flow forecasts and proactively communicate funding needs Review and approve wire transfers, ACH payments, and check disbursements in accordance with authorization and segregation-of-duties policies; manage banking relationships Own end-to-end payroll oversight for all employees across entities including payroll tax compliance, benefits billing, and multi-state withholdings and remittances Serve as the internal point of accountability for all insurance programs; coordinate with external brokers on renewals, coverage tracking, and policy documentation Support senior leadership with ad hoc financial analysis, scenario modeling, and strategic initiatives Lead, develop, and mentor accounting and payroll staff; establish clear roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations What We're Looking For: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred 10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience including 3+ years in a controller or senior accounting leadership role Family office experience strongly preferred Demonstrated ownership of payroll, treasury, and budgeting functions — not solely investment or fund accounting Strong working knowledge of tax-basis accounting, internal controls, and financial reporting for operating companies Experience managing banking relationships and multi-state payroll tax compliance Hands-on familiarity with payroll systems (ADP or similar) Microsoft Dynamics and/or Allvue experience a plus Highest standards of integrity, discretion, and professional judgment Why This Role Stands Out: Direct report to the President — real seat at the leadership table Full ownership across accounting, treasury, payroll, and insurance, broad and meaningful scope High-trust, collaborative environment with a values-driven culture Sophisticated private organization with long-term stability and permanent capital Competitive compensation and benefits package #J-18808-Ljbffr
